I don't have a bolt stretcher so I was wondering if there was a certain preceedure for tightening new rod bolts for the first time?

They used to come with instructions to torque and un-torque 3 times in lieu of having a bolt stretch gage.

By far the most important thing is that you use the lube that is spec for the torque number you are using and that said lube is on the full thread area that gets ingauged and under the nut or head of the bolt which ever the case may be.
The rods have already been torqued up atleast once when they where put togethere at the factory and then sized.

Install the bolts and use the moly lube on the threads. I tighten them down with a ratchet and socket with a slight load then.... torque them down.....let sit for about 5 minutes..... Loosen them all up with nut still on the bolt. slightly tap them on the bottom cap when loose to set all in line with the main body of the rod.
Then retorque them to spec. in the fixture with Moly Lube.
In the engine torque to ARP spec. Never had a rod issue with out a stretch gauge.

BTW; make sure there are no burrs where the head of the bolt sits. Ya want a flat surface and make sure no burrs on the mating surfaces of the rods either. If so, a fine file will fix this.

Ok. These are the 5140 RPM rods that I bought from Tim. They came with the wave locs already installed but no lube in the box.
I can get away with using some moly greese on the threads and under the nuts?

Call me crazy but I'm not spending 20 bucks on a jar of ARP snake oil if I can use some assembly lube. Thanks for the link though.

ALL ARP fasteners stretch stats are based on using their proprietary lube or 30W oil. You're about ready to enter into an area where you have ZERO information. I'd buy the ARP lube if I were you.
