Default 1973 TA - Which Space saver spare Tire?

I have been looking for a space saver spare tire for my 73 TA. I know that there were two brands, one was a Goodyear and the other was BF Goodrich. My all original 79 has the Goodyear, but I can't tell if the application depended on the year or if there was a difference between the Norwood and VN plants. Does anyone have pictures of an original Norwood 73 Space saver spare?

Thanks

I believe 70-75's were BF Goodrich 14" mounted on a gray painted standard wheel...

OK,did some homework...........

Parts book lists: 9793592 69-72 all with 775 x 14 SpaceSaver stamped KC 14 x 6

I pulled one out of a loaded 75 Formula 400 years ago....assuming it was original to that car...guess NOT but I definately lucked out....it's a KC gray wheel & never been down....Perfect for my 70 1/2 T/A.

My parts book is 67-75 and it doesn't give any other Spacesaver codes...need to check the service manual.

Norwood = Goodyear Van Nuys = BFG, at least for mid to late '70's.

All- Thanks for the input! (And the picture)

Held for ransom- are there markings on the tire? I have seen several with L7CU but I have also seen L9CU. I'm not sure what would be correct for 73.

Highway star- as an FYI, I have no idea what my 73 came with- hence the thread. But my 16,000 mile all original 79 from Van Nuys has the Goodyear. Not sure if that rule changed at some point.

Is your 79 a WS4 or WS6?

WS6 (W72 / 4sp). Currently has the original tires on it, though I will need to get the new Polysteeels this year as the right front tire slipped a belt last year. Cheap 34 year old tires...LOL

2 Many - What color is your jack and Jack base? I have seen 3 different colors Blue/Black/Grey. I have heard that blue or Black is correct for 73. (My 79 is the lighter blue). Also is the red larger inflator bottle correct for 73 or could you get the smaller blue canister? If I recall the red bottle was used through 77

Highway Star - What year are you referring to? I know that things changed over the years. Exampler L7CU vs L9CU and Grey rim spares changing over to black. John is very knowledgeable about cars, but I am sure that there are differences between early second gens and later second gens.

Someone is going to have to prove to me that Goodyear Space Saver tires were on the earlier Firebirds (pre-'77).

Tire is marked F78-14 L7CU. Rim is stamped K-1-3 2 (valve stem) 16 EL.

My 73 original jack/base is blue with med. gray tire iron...78 is black & 79-91 is lighter blue with black tire iron...

There was a recall, (late 78?) for ALL 79 WS6 Spacesaver spares.......they discovered AFTER production that the 14" space saver wouldn't clear the brake caliper....so the 14's were exchanged for a 15" with a Goodyear tire.

The red bottle was used till the end of 77 production,as I understand it......the heavier smaller diameter blue bottle was introduced in 78 and WAS re-fillable....red bottle was NOT....so if you went to the dealer for a replacement RED bottle, you got a BLUE one...

John Witski knows a lot about W72 engines and his dad's 77 T/A.......period.... JMO....

Well, my '78 Gold SE TA had the Goodyear mini-space.

1973 docs show that the rims may have been grey too. But, Goodrich was the manufacturer.

Did you buy the 78 new?

Norwood or VN Build?

Early or late build?

So it looks like you had the recall..........If you ever get around to it.........post the #'s codes) stamped by the valve stem.

Think I have one somewhere here and I can compare/confirm.

Nocturne Blue???? How about some pics? I think that's my FAVORITE 79 color.

Have you owned it for long?

I remember that thread.

The docs came from the 1973 assembly manual.

As for the '78, the gold car came from Van Nuys and now you got me thinking on what the tread (manufacturer) was and I don't recall. Tire pamplet was with the car (I was the third owner 5 years after being built (delivered/sold May 13, 1978), low mileage car). I killed it.
My black '78 TA was a 2 owner car from Norwood and it had the Goodyear Custom Mini-Space (T17 12 (valve stem) 16 UA, G78-14). Don't remember the VIN or trim tag info.

Goodyear Custom Mini-spare....is that the "do-nut" style or the inflatable/collapsable style?
