Default '72 Engine Paint

My engine builder painted my original '72 block with Duplicolor DE1610 "Pontiac Blue". After researching a little on the Pontiac Power site. http://www.pontiacpower.org/enginecolor.htm

I realize that this is the wrong color. The engine is still out and will be easy to recoat. Should I be concerned about spraying directly over the Duplicolor? I will do a light scuff job and wipe everything down.

I am going to use the formula from the Pontiac Power site. Any suggestions on what type of paint I should use?

Thanks,
Tom

Post Engine Paint

I have a 71 Trans Am and have seen the post on Pontiac Power ,engine color. The color looks right in the picture. My concerns are that most of the 71-73 Projects in this forum don't appear to be the correct color. It may be that the pictures distort the color? Like you I would like to have correct color information. I would like to know if the aluminium manifold is suppose to be painted engine color or left raw aluminium. Attached are pictures of the color of my engine oil filter adapter which is the only part on the engine with color all else was black because of a repaint.
Any help would be great
Thanks
Nick

I ended up ordering some OER paint from Summit that is supposed to be correct for '71-early '73. I am going to spray a card and see how well it matches some of my original '72 parts. I know that the 1610 paint that is on there now is incorrect.

I used the color codes from the pontiac power site to mix up a batch for my '73 engine, but I don't have any thing to reference whether or not the color came out right.

I will post my results on the OER paint when it arrives.

Thanks,
Tom

i think 71-72 455 H.O. intakes were originally painted. i used OEM's # 62210 as a guide for mixing my own single stage PPG paint. a raw aluminium H.O. intake would be incorrect.

Default Factory aluminum intakes

Whn I broke down my '72 455 H/O the intake was not painted. I couldn't imagine painting over a performance upgrade. I am far from an expert on what is "correct" or not but, I have never seen a painted aluminum factory intake.

My 72 Formula 455 had the intake painted engine color as well as painted valve covers(car all original), besides the SD you couldnt get a more mundane looking performance engine!

My 72 Formula 455 HO intake is painted, not sure if there is a difference between the T/A and the Formula. My car has 58,000 miles and the intake/engine appears to have the original paint on them.

the T/A and Formula 455HO intakes got engine paint, the aluminum 455HO GTO intakes were left natural, not sure why but thats the way they came.

As factory produced, ALL RA IV intakes were unpainted, ALL 455HO intakes were painted.

Default Manifold

I'm the one who asked about the paint or no paint on the manifold. My engine is a Ram Air IV. I took another look at the manifold and find no traces of paint anywhere on the manifold except the thermostat housing which looks like it was painted off the manifold. I think Loyd-TX is right on. Attached are some pictures of my manifold. Who handles OEM engine paint? Thanks everybody for the info and help.

Has anyone tested Duplicolor "Torq'N'Teal" (DE1643) to see if it is a close match for any of the various year range colors?
