How times change! Today people expect even 650 net horsepower cars to idle quietly at 500rpm for 20 minutes in the rush hour McDonalds drive through line with the temperature gauge at 190 even with the AC keeping the cabin chilled on a 95 degree day.

So the Jag concept didn't pan out and the old Jag was pushed to the side,
Then comes along an enthusiastic group of Scouts. What can we build?... STAY TUNED!

Someone forgot the Camera...
When I first found this issue years ago I read it and enjoyed the writers views of the car and all the good bad while driving in Europe, shortly after something was bugging me about the images. It didn't register right away but soon I realized that the test drive and the photo shoot didn't happen together, nor even in the same location. I looked at the riverside shot a little closer and was floored when I new this place. The shot is on the access road of Sandy Hook National Park Highlands New Jersey. I grew up here. This image shows the historic Twin Lights Lighthouse on the hillside of the Navesink River. I was floored and always wondered what happen during the test did someone forget the camera or did the pictures if any taken just not work?? Anyway I just thought it was cool and when my '66 was completed in '95 I did make an attempt to re-create this picture but never could get it so with the camera I had at the time. Just a neat little tidbit I thought I would share. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Navesink_Twin_Lights

I've had this issue of C&D for 25 years and must of read it 100 times and never picked up on that! Overall it was quite the article:
If you look at all the pics none of them are clearly in Europe, a few possibilities: ... The article was BS and they never had an airlifted LeMans in Europe ... Due to print deadlines they couldn't get the photos back in time from Europe or they were lost so they used some pics from before it was shipped over. Another oddity is that they mention 13liters / 100km which translates to 17mpg not 21. The 21 is for an old British gallon not the US gallon, strange, wonder if was just a mistake. You've got to love the Hiroshima analogy. Can you imagine a magazine printing a comment like that today? Like saying Americans need the smart car the way Jews needed Hitler! Overall not a glowing review!! Sounds like the car needed to be better built, radial tires and a numerically lower diff.

The comment on the lack of turbo hydramatic is interesting. Seems like that sprint engine was(understandably) a dog in any articles of the day when equipped with a power glide. Was it only in 69 you could get a 3spd automatic?
Also wonder if they ever tested one with a turbo hydramatic? Must have done wonders for a peaky engine like that to have that wider gear set.

Jeff your post 64 is cool beyond words. Is the building with your car in front the same as the one in the article?

Same location, but not the same wall.
Many changes to the Old lighthouse over the years. Neat place to visit lots of history on those hills. Since it's not on the main highways it goes unnoticed by most shore visitors.

Been away from this forum for too long. Just read this thread and am now up to the current post. Didn't get a quarter way through the article when I read Jackie Stewart's comment on how he likes the hood tack. "This is were the speedometer belongs. The driver need not take his eyes off the road to read the dial_ an important safety feature." I absolutely love it. I've been saying this since 1994 when I bought my 1990 Turbo Grand Prix. It has the Heads up display feature. It is something I think every car should have. One of the biggest omissions on the 08 09 G8. Sorry for the semi-highjack. Great thread Jeff! I know what else I'll be doing Sunday mornings from now on.

Interesting to see a bird front end with a camaro tail.
Makes me think that the opposite would look better than either car. A camaro nose with the Fbird tail

Came across this a year or so ago on the net;
It was listed as an OHC app part but I'm not sure.

Neat article, sounds like they are on the payroll of GM!
Interesting how they rate the 400 at 318 and 325 horse in the same article. Maybe you can see better the photo of the "spoiler" they refer to? What the heck are they talking about?
