Heads for '70 455 WA Block?
What are your thoughts on heads for a '70 GTO 455 WA block? The original 64s are long gone. What's the going price on rebuildable 64s? I'm not going for concourse, but I'd like to stay factory where feasible. If not 64s, what heads would recommend for a car being built for cruise nights, driving, and the occasional 1/4 mile journey?

Hey, Gary! Remember me from Norwalk a few years ago? I was out there with Robb Freeman in my gold '70 LeMans. How you been?

number 96 from 1971 would work also.
alum if you want to grow later. several threads on here about going to edelbrock D or round port heads. KRE also sells a good D port head. myself, I watched around and found a set of Butler ported #64 where he had opened up the chamber for 9.5 compression to work on my 455.

Depending on if you want a stock look or not. I wanted to go Aluminum heads but due to the formula hood, can't get a taller intake under it. You won't have that issue so if you could find a good deal on them I would go for it.

mine were dirt cheap, bought on here. rebuild able, 450-600, done 1000+. those are just ideas from me, not set in stone. check there were a couple sets on here for sale a few months ago.
go to the for sale threads and type in 64 in the search block. I found several sets there, one a complete top end. one a rebuilt set for 500.00, they were not stock which may be the reason they sold cheap.

The motor currently has 5I heads. What the general consensus of the 5I for this application?

Kyle, here's a link to specs for the heads.
The 51's are about 124 CC, 6x-4 are about 94 CC , 64's are 87 cc's http://www.wallaceracing.com/head1.htm In stock form the 51's compression would be around 7.6. |
