Door sheet metal thickness
What is the thickness of the outer door skin metal of a 66 A-Body. I need to do some patch work, and have to pick up some metal. Picked up my door from the media blaster and it has a couple extra holes in it now. ;-) Darn Michigan rust!
Thank you in advance, Bob

At Metalmeet.com we use 19 gauge on older projects like yours. Newer cars with high carbon steel are thinner. 19 can be hard to find in some places so 20 gauge is used. If you want to go a little thicker 18 will work. But generally 19 is what you need for a old car. Your door skin when new would have measured .0418 which is 19 gauge for sheet steel.
I use 19 for my own stuff but if you cant find it 20 will work. I would not go any thinner as it will ding easily. Paul

I had to put a few patches in mine. Pretty sure I used 18 gauge.
