Default 77 Lemans Safari Reno CL

Its been kinda slow on this forum of late, I stumbled on this 77 Lemans Safari for sale in Reno. Looks good for the $2200 asking price. And was 2 tone paint an option in 77? About all I can tell from the pic's is that it is a 2 seat wagon, with Cruise and A/C, I beleive the 301 2bbl would have been the standard engine, but being that close to Cali who knows. And as a wagon it should have Pwr steering and Brakes.

Looks pretty nice... especially at $2200! If it were closer I'd be all over it. VIN shows 350 4bbl motor.

Yea, but a very cheap price for what looks like a well preserved car.
$2,200 hardly buys anything these days except a sea of 10 yr old bland plastic , worn out look-a-like modern day boring cars.

I like the car & if it wasn't so close to Christmas I'd jump on it. I like the wagons , but if it has the olds engine in it I'd have to swap that out right away, as I am as I've said before a firm believer that a Pontiac should have a Pontiac engine in it . To answer the other question yes you could get a 2 tone paint job on the wagon in 77. There was a guy on my ship while I was still in the Navy in 77, (the year I got out) had a 2 tone wagon, but I couldn't get him to stop calling it a LEMOINES wagon. He was from the south, but I tried for 10 months to get him to stop calling it that. His was a 301 car.

Yes I know that the 400 was still available for it but IF the 301 turbo was available for it that would have been the perfect engine as you could swap over almost all of the parts for the turbo to a 400 or 455 & had a very strong car. I know a guy that use the parts from the 301 turbo & made a 400 turbo from the stuff from the 301 ,, of course he had to make a few of the parts to make it work in his 80 T/A & you had to look real close to see that it wasn't a 301 in the car. He had everything hooked up so the lights on the hood worked & all the items under the hood if you didn't know what the 301 looked like you might have been fooled. This guy worked in a machine shop & it took him about a month to get everything he needed to make it work but the car was kinda fast back then. He had the car for about 4-5 years & then blew it up because something went wrong with the oil feed to the turbo & pow it went away big time. He sold the car with the blown engine to someone in IL. back about 1986-7, I think the guy that bought it PLANNED to put it back together withthe same set up but I lost track of it after it got sold.

I can't believe I did not notice the VIN posted in the ad, and the Olds 350 makes sense as it was probably originally sold either in California or one of the High Altitude states. So the only engine options would have been the Olds 350 or 403.

Interesting idea about adding the 301 Turbo to a low CR 455. Never heard of tat particular idea before.

I can't believe the drivers seat isn't worn on this car. Even the little you can see of the interior plastic looks good. It must have spent most of its life indoors.
