Default Pitman arm install

Installing a new pitman on my steering box (jeep upgrade). I won't go the last 1/4" or so. everything is lined up properly and I have stripped out 2 nuts trying to get this on. Any ideas?

I understand that this is a taper fit and shouldn't go up all they however at this point the nut is flush with no threads sticking out. I would think there would be at least 3-4 threads visible.

Default Threads?

Maybe you can borrow a die from someone or the parts store and run it up and down the threads on the box shaft. It doesn't take much to ding them up.

Pretty sure the threads on the shaft are ok-the arm just doesn't want to more up any further. May be ok as is but seems like it should go up a little more.

When you put the pitman arm on did you make sure to line up the arm on the shaft because you do know that there is one of the splines that is thicker & it is where it lines up on the shaft. You may be tring to force it up on the wrong splines. You'll have all around the shaft they splines are close together & then there should be 1 that is wider for proper alignment. If it's not on the right way it will go on but not all the way.

I have a Jeep steering box on my GTO and have 3-4 threads visible on the bottom of the pitman arm shaft when all is tightened up. I think there should be at least 2-3 threads visible when installed?

the pitman arm does not go all the way to the box. you will see about 1/4" between. if you look up the toqure spec and tighten it to that you will be fine. manual calls for 140 lb. hope this helps

The gap is just a tad over 3/8". Every bit of 140 ft lbs to get it there!
