Speedometer Cable and Backup Light Harness
I connected the speedometer cable to the transmission (Muncie four speed) and plugged in the backuplight harness this weekend. Would have been much easier to do when the body was off the frame, but I didn't think about it then. I understand that the harness is held to the body of the transmission by clips, but what about the cable? It just seems to hang there and it looks like it could easily hit the exhaust pipe or get tangled in the clutch fork spring. Is there any kind of bracket that holds it to the floorboard? I see the two accelerator pedal bolts coming through the floorboard and it seems like a natural spot for a bracket to hold the cable away from all the stuff that could mess it up.

There is a little bracket that goes on the accelerator pedal stud from the bottom and is held on with a nut. I'll see if I can find a picture tonight.

this is what Ron was talking about , this is my 65 and the speedo cable isn't in cleaning up the surface rust on the bolts . If you look at the bracket towards the outside of the car you can see the loop the speedo cable goes through.

Aha! That's what I'm talking about. Very helpful. Thanks, Don. Ron if you have a closer pic I can see if I have that laying around somewhere. I knew there had to be something down there. I can't believe that somehow I missed it when I took the car apart; I was very careful to put every nut and bolt in a zip lock bag and label it and log it in on a spreadsheet. But at the very end I did get a little lazy and maybe this bracket got caught in the laziness.

Bill, these are the best pictures I could find of mine. Super crusty. I don't have a picture of it restored in that area.

Ron: wow, that really is crust-city. But it sure does show me what I needed to see. I knew there had to be something like that down there. I need to go through all of my parts and see if I can find it. This car was in really good rust free shape when I got into it, and I've probably got that clip laying around somewhere. None of the parts houses seem to be carrying it. Many thanks, Ron and Don for your help.

PB,
Went looking to be sure of what I had in the bin. Looks like the one I have on hand is 66-67. Sorry for the false alarm, I'll dig around to see if I have any others.

Thanks for all of your help, guys. I made it over to the shop today and went looking for the speedometer cable clip. It was right where I left it
.still hooked up to the old speedometer cable, still hooked up to the old transmission. Here's a pic of it after giving it the old wire brush. I don't think you'll find one that is in this good of condition anywhere. Kind of gives you an idea of just what good shape this car was in when I started it:
