Default 455 HP estimate

Probably a little late to ask this question since my engine is built. But what can I realistically expect for HP and torque?

455 with 96 heads. Mild pocket porting but mostly stock. Heads not milled much. Wasn't given any details on how much yet. Summit 2802 cam. Qjet rebuilt by Cliff.

It's going in a 71 Firebird with an automatic and 3.23 rear.

Thanks

375 "real" HP and 450 ft lbs. By real I mean will run the numbers at the track.

Ok. Thanks. The engine builder said it would be about 425, which I didn't really believe. He was also trying to talk me into the XE274 cam that he used in my friends 400, which he claims has 400 HP

I'm just hoping it will be quicker than my stock 2000 TA and a lot quicker than my 04 GTP Comp G.

Needs more cam for a "real" 400 HP. It will still have gobs of tire shredding torque.

I'm a fan of Ultradyne cams Bullet has the lobes now. If using a hydraulic flat tappet the 280/288 is mild in a 455-but I bet a step above the Summit 2802, the 288/296 about right with a lope.

Be sure the heads have good springs regardless of the cam and check retainer to seal clearance.

My car will be street driven 99.99% of the time. And I have to get on the highway to go anywhere. So I need something that can cruise around 75 or 80 all day long. So hopefully, this engine will be able to do that.

Thanks so much for your input Skip!!

This is what the car in my sig did on a chassis dyno. Were those estimates at the crank?

Mr. Whore,

Is that with the same Summit 2802 cam and 96 heads or similar? If so, I'd be doing cartwheels to have 375 at the rear wheels with that combo!!

My estimates were for a conservative dyno at the flywheel that will push a 3800-3900lb car mid to high 12s. 106-110 mph higher if a stick.

Old Faithful is way more cam under the curve than a 2802. Edelbrock Ds flow way more than 220 out of the box.

Using Superflow numbers for real HP the PERFECT combination of cam, compression, induction ,exhaust 220 cfm has the max HP potential of 453, using Wallace calculator for a 455 is only 417 for 220 cfm.

220 is a good moderate ported D port head.

Dave that sounds like a real nice combo it will have plenty of HP and tons of torque. Put the biggest tire back there that you can fit and if she hooks up you will have a fast street machine. Nice combo and nice rear gear you will enjoy the car set up like that. Too many guys try to over build their street cars and ruin their streetability then they are no longer fun to drive. Besides if your engine make too much power the tires just go up in smoke and all you will be able to see thru the smoke is Mustang tail lights in the distance.

I think the guy who rebuilt my tranny sold me a 10" Precision Engineering converter. I believe he said the stall speed is around 2700 - 2900. I think that's a bit much. What do you all think?

Thanks!

Any quarter mile ET and trap speed estimates? Also I've read that I should have about 16 inches of vacuum at an idle? Does that sound right? Should that be enough for power brakes?

No, I run the "old faithful" cam and Edelbrock D ports. Sorry for the confusion.
