Default Power Steering Problems

when the car is first started up the power steering works fine at slow or high speeds. when the car gets hot I lose the power steering, more so at slower speeds. I also find it very hard to make a quick turn almost as if the steering box is binding. Any quick tricks to determine weather the steering box or the power steering unit is bad. thanks

Heat would not affect your steering gear box so it must be the ps pump

Try connecting a pressure gauge to the pump and see what the pressures aree cold and hot.

Try tightening the belt first.

Default Power steering problems

Thanks for info. Car has serpentine belt system and belt is tight. Replaced power steering pump, could second pump be bad? Aftermarket gm pump. From street and performance.

I had the same problem, drove me crazy. Installed rebuilt Cardone steering box and power steering pump. No power steering.

Returned the steering box to NAPA for another. Still not working. Asked many questions, got many opinions.

Replaced the pump with another rebuilt Cardone pump and it worked. I have had the same issues with brake master cylinders from Cardone.

Arrow Buy a new pump...

Faced with the same issue, I purchased a new pump from Summit for $150 which produced around 100psi more than the factory specs. Rebuilding the pumps yourself or buying rebuilt pumps appears to be a hit & miss proposition. Replacing a few O-rings in the same old worn out core pool is no longer effective.
