Need New Front Mystery Hub, HELP!!
I am working on a Modified '49 Chevy for a Buddy.
It has a Olds 455 engine, narrowed Ford 9" rearend and a Mystery GM front Clip. He is having troubles with the Brakes. The end result is the passenger side front Hub is bad. The inner race and grease seal are both loose in the hub. Someone went into the hub at some point and tried dimpling the press fit dia. on the hub to hold the race in. The spindle is chewed up some what but I think I can use whats there without too much of an issue. My problem is need a new hub. I don't know the identity of the hub to find a replacement. Here is what I know. its a GM part., 4 1/2 bolt circle. Uses grease seal #17815 Uses inner bearing #LM67048 Uses outer bearing #LM11949 The hub uses the studs with the longer press so that the drum is in effect pressed to the hub. I am including some pictures If anyone can I.D. This for me and can either supply this part or send me to a source for the part I'd be greatfull. Thanks |

Any maximum diameter figures stamped into the drum? That could narrow it down some.

Thanks Gregg!!
Talked to Chris, between the both of us we came up a solution that would allow me to use a existing hub from a 65 Tempest. 2 heads are better than one. After talking to him I went back to my parts stash cause I remember a front spindle/brake drum assembly I had that had the studs pressed in to the drum/hub set-up. It turns out that it uses all the same components (seal and bearings) that the mystery hub uses. It had some minor differences but it had issues with the studs (missing, broken and welded in loose studs), so after ordering new studs (Doesn't anyone carry anything in inventory any more?) that fixed my problems I'm all set to go just waiting for parts to be del'vd. Sometimes there are more ways to skin a cat. I was going to sleeve the hub if I couldn't get a replacement. This saves me some time, Thanks Again!! |

........."Here is what I know. its a GM part, 4 1/2 bolt circle."
I think that the ONLY GM 4 1/2" lug bolt pattern "hub" is from a 61-63 Tempest. |

If you're still having issues, try 73-74 Ventura with manual drum brakes. 4 3/4 bolt pattern hub looks very similar.
