PHS Invoice date question and VIN #
Need to be enlightened. How can a JUDGE with a earlier VIN #, from the same plant - Freemont, have a later execution or build date than the other car.
1st PHS is the JUDGE on EBAY http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1969-...item25813d5c23 last 6 digits is 119471, dated 04/08 2nd PHS last 6 digits is 119485 date 03/14, wouldnt the 1 dated have a # higher than 119485? Thanks Brian |

I believe the date on the PHS document is an invoice date. There could be a number of reasons why an invoice was delayed.
I bet the body tag shows the car with the lower vin was built first but they may have been built the same week and in that case the date on the body tag would be the same. |

I believe the dates you are referring to are the dates that the car was invoiced to the dealer and not the date of production. You would need to see the build sheets from the cars. It looks to me like they would have been built very close together, maybe even the same day. The later one may have been a dealer order and the other a zone "pool" car. OPH should be able clarify it for you.

The one on eBay was a zone car. Built and sat for a few weeks before dealer picked it out/up.

The Carousel Red Judge that was 14 VIN numbers later was dealer ordered. Know GMAC used to have a priority 1 sold designation, though this one was most likely finaced by a local bank, it was nothing for this Judge to be delivered right in Fremont CA was, transportation wise, & thus all total, the quick delivery. Who knows if it actually was driven up on a transport, & hauled a few miles to dealer, it my have been driven to the dealer. Z119471, whether zone ordered (which it was) or dealer ordered would have had to wait in the assembly plant huge lot, then make the trip by rail a collection point in South Dakota (or nearby state), where it would wait again until so many vehicles were delivered to the dealer(s) in Rapid City, South Dakota.

Great explanations.
Invoice date is just that - the day it was invoiced to the selling and/or ordering dealership. Dakota car was prefix Z = Zone Order Travel time to SD, dealer allocation from zone storage lot time, many variables can exist. And when that SD dealer actually sold the car - is an unknown. Another note, cars shipped by rail will have a rail car number in the box underneath the Hold Back box on invoice. Hard to see unless you have a great clear copy - but that box is labeled Rail Car No. box. |

freemont judges
I'm wondering, do the Freemont cars have the sheet on the tank. I was thinking of dropping tank to find it.

I would have just phrased it this way: a) Cars are not necessarily built in VIN order (plant dependent) b) Cars are definitely not shipped in VIN order (due to in plant repairs). We've burned all the gas out of a few basket cases shuttling them back and forth between repair stations. c) Cars are not invoiced in VIN order (due to prior purchasing, financing, shipping and usage arrangements). I should add that the VIN is not the primary tracking mechanism of the vehicle in the plant. It is just another item to be installed, like an emissions or tune up label. K
