Help! 63 Lemans Brakes!
So I recently bought a 63 Lemans. 326, 2bbl, 2spd, power steering, non power brakes. It was sitting for a very long time before I got it running, and I found out I need to replace the shoes, but I can't find them anywhere! If anyone has spare shoes for sale or knows where to get them for this car, I'd really appreciate it. My only other option I see is doing a conversion to a different drum or converting it to disk, which I don't want to do.
Thanks!

You can remove the shoes from your car and have new linings put on them at a shop that does brake relining, usually they cater to big trucks (Semis etc.), but they can usually reline any shoes as long as the lining is available.

I was going to do that but there's something wrong with the shoes that they're so messed up and broken that the shop can't do that? I don't understand much about drum brakes, unfortunately, but the shop said they can't reline the bad shoes. They could reline new ones.

In that case, Rock Auto lists them new bonded shoes for $25 an axle set.

I gave them a call and it turns out they don't have any in stock, and have a huge backorder list. Do you know of anyone/anywhere else?

AMES Catalog
Welcome to the Forum. Go to the Ames Performance website and either download a 61-3 Tempest catalog or order one. They have shoes for the Tempest among a lot of other stuff you may need, like hoses and pre-bent brake lines.

Btw if you ever decide to do the ladder bar and coil over conversion I can give you the info for the shop here in San Diego that did the chassis work on my car. Great guys and it will be done when they say it will be done. They really want to do another car like mine. https://m.facebook.com/pages/San-Diego-Automotive-and-Fabrication/186792421399191?id=186792421399191&refsrc=http%3A% 2F%2Fwww.google.com%2Fsearch&_rdr

R 70 Judge -
what type of sway bar(s) will fit the 63 Lemans? I have manual steering if it matters. TY Roadtrippin Rte66 |

I was just talking about the stock factory piece. It's an odd shaped sway bar. I doubt you could find stuff from other makes that would fit. I converted to a rack and pinion so nearly all of my original steering system is different now.
