1971 Trans Am build dates
I've got a question for the experts out there: When did production of 71 T/A's begin? I looked at a blue on blue 4 speed yesterday with an 08E build date that was shipped to Vincel Pontiac in St. Louis Mo. on 9/20/70. Also wondering which Rally II's should be on the car because it currently has honeycombs on it. PHS says its a 3 option car with tinted glass, AM radiio and a console.

08E was likely the first or second week of production. It most likely had late dated JWs on it, like June or July dates. Was it a Norwood or VN car?

The car may have come with honeycombs unless you know differently. I don't believe they show up on the PHS for 1971.

They don't show up on the PHS for TAs as far as I know, but, I don't think they were available until around the middle of the production year (Jan or Feb 71).

I thought honeycombs were a mid year choice that was free in 71. It's a Norwood car but does not have a build sheet with it, only the PHS. Nice driver, with 60,000 and a few extras added in the late 80's or early 90's when it was restored.

Carnut, That's what I thought too. When the phs came back with honeycombs, I was pleasantly surprised. It is a Norwood car. 228871n1278xx

I thought honey combs were standard in 71.

Nope, optional after mid-year. It was a no-cost option on the TAs. I am surprised they were on your PHS TAjunkman. How late a build was your car?

How's it going Eric?
Boomershine had some well connected people working there back in the day- Beswick's Passionate Poncho II ended up there, right before it vanished. There is a silver 69 judge that comes our BOP show. One of the best looking colors on a 69 Judge I've seen. The stripe really pops out against the silver. |
