The one i posted doesn't have it on the bottom corner ,
neither does my other sample on file ,
they have it on the side corner .

But can see your samples do have it on the bottom corners .
oh well - so much for that theory ,
i should have gathered more samples .

Sorry about that folks .

If you look at that blank closely - it is either printed on the back too ,
or it has been ghosted on the front.
But it gives off the right look whatever its doing.

Its kinda funny too - look where it says about cleaning and gapping the spark plugs -
suggests they will do (7) plugs , or maybe up to 7 . lol
i bet they really get you on that 8th plug with extra mark up.

Or maybe it means something else.
But it made me laugh a lil

That would be great if someone could help Bear check all the particulars over while its all apart anyway.

i doubt he'd have much recourse on anything other than a tag swap.
But i doubt its been done that way.
Saw blue at bottom layer where they ground for the quarter skin , and some trim out popped off in front jambs showing blue.

But i'd definitely examine everything as close as possible - just for the knowing.

By the level of deterioation underhood from the Volo ad to the pictures Bear posted underhood , looks like a lot of time has passed since Volo sold it .

Something else i "think" i noticed on the old PHS papers - it didn't look like they highlighted the options in yellow like they normally do. That could have helped tip off the previous owner if they had done that . He might have noticed the conflicts .

The guy I bought it from had it for 10 years as he spent that time in jail. The car was run 2 times a year just to keep things moving by a good friend of mine which was the brother-in-law of the owner. At the time he was buying muscle cars left and right because he could till he found his wife in his bed with another guy. Now you know why he was in jail.
I do believe he was miss lead by Volo with that ad, but if you read the ad it says it's a 389 car (Which it is). Doses not say it has a 389 motor in it. It does say it has 39 options which it does have, not sure if it's true 39 option car.
You guys have been a great help!!! Thanks for your efforts. Please keep the info coming.
Gary, I bought it 1 year ago next week. The guy has the protector plate somewhere so he says???? Not sure that it will help my cause but would not hurt. If you stop by we can look at some things and see what we fine.

P-o-P would tell the block code .
Would be a heck of a start in the right direction.

You're right about the Volo ad and their way of toe'ing the line.

10 years ago that car wasn't worth enough for them to have done it up like that on their coin. Its probably exactly how they got it.

Friend of mine has a Barrier Blue 66 with White interior and no vinyl top.
Its sharper than a razor.
Might want to try waiting on changing the interior color back to black and wait on installing the vinyl top . You might like it Blue - White interior .

Real sorry to hear how things happened to your friend .
10 years gone , damn.

You can buy them from OPGI for $5.99 , probably plenty other places too.
Or print your own at home now.

This "may" have been the same form that AAA used ?
It "may" be the same that PHS uses too ?

But what i noticed is this blank has the exact same "FORM 520" in lower left corner as the fake one Bear has.

Originals do not have that form number in lower left corner.

You also could not have sat down at a standard typewriter and duplicated the factory style font and print style of the text.

Thank the heavens above we don't HAVE TO place any value into the integrity of hand me down paper documents in the Pontiac hobby.

I've got one of these I bought from our host years ago. It even has the writing on the back.

BTW, Triple A was still in business a couple of years ago, but if you ask them to do you a window sticker for a Pontiac they referred you to PHS. They would do you a window sticker for a Chevy, Olds, etc. but must have some kind of agreement with PHS.

I wondered what the numbers (7) and (17) meant on the service coupon??? That could be the normal price for that part of the service. If someone knows what that means, I'd like to know.

Geez - I take a couple days off and everything goes to heck!

(lol)

Glad I could help facilitate some discussion on this one.

Yes - Triple A will only document the options on the window sticker as documented by PHS (aka they won't add options that aren't supported by PHS).

Yes - as BVZ stated getting your own PHS is always a good idea (normally before the purchase, but afterwards is ok too).

Either way ..... not nice

I know everyone agrees this is a fake. I just want to add that the Zone and Dealer # as well as the dealer order # should have been in the top left corner above the border design.

When I bought my 66 the PO had the PHS paperwork, but I purchased my own prior to buying the car. This is a very informative thread, I'm learning a lot!! Now I'm glad I did purchase the PHS even though they did match up in the end. I think they are at least 10 years apart and in a slightly different format, but they do both report the same information.

Wow,I can't believe where this thread has gone since I posted back on the first page.
I thought the owner had his own PHS paperwork done prior to purchasing.

We’ll I got back the PHS 1966 Car Billing History Sheet it is the same as the one I posted earlier , it looks to me someone along the way installed options on the car that were not factory installed. Someone went to great lengths doing so, as the car has what is on the Manufactures Sheet lists. Things I have learned, TRUST NO ONE, do as much research as possible before buying anything and know what you are going to invest and decide if it is worth it. In my case, to late, I am well on the way to have a fantastic GTO that has a lot of options others don’t have which will make it unique and fun to have. Investment life is short so live for today!!

Hey Bear, that's great, at least you now know for sure.

When I bought my car in '89 I didn't do a PHS, but looking at the car I could pretty much tell it was real. It did come originally with some cool options, mostly the luxury/comfort items but thats what makes it unique, and not the desirable to most; 4 spd, trips setup. I then added some options I liked, and glad I did. Had the car for almost 25 years now and glad I did as I wasn't thinking resale value. My major components are all original (block, carb, trans, alt, rad, AIR setup) and being a CA car makes these that much more unique.

Enjoy it, it's your car, that's what it's all about.

I got to see Pete's GTO last Saturday and I can say he's done a fantastic job on the whole frame and componets, plus the engine.

I even took him for a ride in mine just to get the juices flowing, and get him primed to git-r-done.

Had this done years ago. My original invoice was about $4,200, so the options I added which are included in this, were an extra ~ $400.

Wish I could find a power seat track, which I had planned to install but now it's gone.

i would be Deeply Relieved that the Billing History Card was the same.
Many have been less fortunate when buying a supposed TriPower 4spd car.

Original drivetrain combo and color combo are where the meat and potatoes are today.

The missing engine is a bigger hit to collector/market value than it not having been a 39 option car. Not in any way saying the car is ruined by the engine , just saying that is a strong hit. The engine you have is a better piece of hardware tho - fwiw .

Your car has a great pedigree on its own , plus lots of additional equipment.
The condition seems to be great , and you're making it even greater.
You came out better when the dust settled than many other scenarios i can think of.

Roll on with it Man
