Default Turbo LS 6.0 (LQ4) Engine questions

I've been out of the car thing for a few years......... I want to sell my 455 and do a turbo LS. Fuel injection, good mpg, and no more nitrous. Who on here has done a LS motor?
My 455 went 11.80's on the motor at 4500' elevation. 10's coasting (I broke the transmission) on a 150 shot. When I blew the trans I sent the car to the chassis shop and got rid of the leafs. I'll have the whole setup for sale on here soon and I'm starting over with a LS.

Here's pics of the suspension and car now.

Rodney Butler has built a few LS engines.

One of which made over 2300 hp and went 244 in the standing mile in a Z06 Vette. He knows Pontiacs of all kinds! You might consider giving him a call....

My friend builds all the turbo LS cars in town here. I'm set on a motor guy and tuner. I just wanted to see who on here is doing it and what did they go through.

That is one fine 'Bird there. The rear suspension area work looks fantastic. Of course I would urge you to stay traditional Ponticf but the lure to those LS based motors it too hard to resist. If I had anything other than Pontiacs I'd build one (if I could afford to) in a minute. Good luck on your build, you will find lots of info out there on these motors. They've really replaced pushed the old sbc aside. And like all things Chevy, the aftermarket support is already outstanding. Mark L

I love my 455, plenty of power......but the thought of a turbo and 20 mpg's is very tempting.
I've beat 1 liter bikes with this motor, it moves........ but a turbo LS on pump gas sounds fun.

I am currently running a 2004 GTO with a 408 Ci LQ9 built by Texas Speed. We've got ETP 245 cc heads and a custom grind FI cam. Topped off by a 4.0 liter Whipple with a 50 dry shot. At one time I planned on a 150 dry shot but the first time I hit the button on the 50 it scared me. Last set of dyno pulls we made a best of 969/1110 through a clutch going away, 29 inch tall tires, and a 9 inch ford rear end. Since then we have revamped the fuel system going to an A1000 based full return setup feeding E85 through Bosch/ID 2000cc injectors. We also shucked the T-56 in favor of an FTi stage 5 TH400. I've been building on the car for the last few years trying to avoid going out on a limb for purchases. We just recently had the blower completely rebuilt by Whipple and added a CBM Motorsports intake. I still have to sort out some throttle cable issues and finish the cold air intake but hope to get track times early this month.

We were running 23 lbs of boost which held pretty consistent once we built the cog drive. I am not sure which direction that will go. We have opened up the fuel quite a bit but we have put the TH400 on which might drop the numbers

That's nice. Why didn't you do a turbo? What does it run?

I had a 94 mm Borg Warner but decided to go with a 2.3 harrow due to ease of install cost and so forth. The harrow wasn't big enough for the motor and I didn't want to go back and redo the plumbing so we popped the whipple on. 1000+ foot pounds of torque at 2200 rpm has sort of kept me there. Haven't made a pass yet.

The IRS is inefficient as it is implemented in this car but the setup I have is a nine ch ford center section with a wavetrac 33 spline diff and 300 mm cvs with 33 spline hubs. I expect it to last as well as any 9 inch. I don't have that much confidence in the Holden/GM design so all I need is the housing and links to finish the SRA conversion.

Here is my combo. I drive it daily and beat the snot out of it. On multiple dynos it makes over a 1000 to the tires thru a 4l80e transmission in a 2003 regular cab chevy truck.

Cast iron lq4 block 5 over
Srp dished pistons 8.8 to one
H beam forged rods
Stock crankshaft
Arp main studs
Stock timing chain and gears
Melling hi volume oil pump
Isky tripple 12 camshaft...212 212 550 550 on a 112
Ls7 lifters
Comp .080 wall pushrods (I really think it needs better pushrods)
Stock lifter buckets with holes drilled for drain back
Stock oil pan
Factory untouched casting number 317 heads with dual valve springs 170 on the seat
Stock valves
Ls9 head gaskets with 2 coats of copper spray and set on tacky
Arp head studs
Factory rocker arms with comp cams trunion upgrade
Edelbrock victor junior with 1.5 inch open spacer and large sweep elbow also from edelbrock
Factory drive by wire throttle body
Ngk -7 plugs
Factory fuel injection that came with the truck, speed density with 3 bar map sensor
Injector dynamics 2000cc injectors
Magnaflow pro tuner 750
E85 pump fuel
Precision pt88 mid frame t4 turbo (I think the pt7675 would be faster)
Factory truck manifold on drivers side
Log manifold on passenger side with turbo flange
Crossover underneath truck
Tial mvr44 wastegate with 19lb springs (makes 21.5 lbs on this setup)
4 inch downpipe with wastegate vented to atmosphere
Aces transmissions 4l80e bad boy with full factory computer controlled shifts and transbrake
ProTorque 5 disc lockup converter
3.42 gear
315 radial

Truck ran 10.12 at 136.5 on 15lbs and made 790hp to the tire at 4620 lbs with a 1.52 60 ft on the radials. I expect 9.70ish at that weight and 1004hp to the tires. It gets 14mpg on e85 and the fuel is $3.19 a gallon. Literally drive it anywhere with air, power everything and overdrive lockup. Even has a bumpin stereo lol. One of the funnest vehicles I have ever owner no doubt. Ive been 177mph in it top speed and it wanted more.

Dead reliable and quiet. Absolutely love it. Air to air intercooler up front off ebay for 200 bucks. Didnt work very good with gasoline but works great with e85. Picked up a hundred to the tires with ethanol.

Good to see you again on here. It's been a while.
We will talk soon bout the combo.
I'm trying to find a wrecked LQ4 truck now. 1000 in my car would be perfect.

My Low 10 second 455 complete setup is for sale boys.
I'll sell it all carb to pan ignition trans everything.
