...summer 1969

...I was going to a computer programming school in Indy and our teacher built a 65 Corvair with a mid engine 396/375...it was light metallic green with white walls and hub caps and looked completely stock unless you looked inside where the back seat was supposed to be

...after school he would sometimes race a few of us in the huge parking lot and he soundly whipped butt on everything including my 396/375 '69 Chevelle, a 440 Charger, Mustangs etc...nothing was in it's class...the mid engine conversion kit was sold by a company in Indy at the time,

...the one time I got to ride in it, we raced a BOSS 302 and he wasn't even in the running from the time the light turned green, we left him so far behind it was funny

...I have always wondered what ever happened to the little green Corvair "that could"

Here's a vid of it running. Says its a Toronado 455. Looks like a death trap, but a fun way to go.

I had a Corv-8 back in the 70's. Crown made the mid-engine ones and Kelmark made the toro conversions. On the street they were hard to beat.

Default Been there, Done that...

The year....1982
The car....1968 VW Beetle
The frame.....1972 Omega
The engine....455 of pure Pontiac!

Built this car for one of my teenaged buddies.....the red '76 T/A was my first Pontiac!!

Low 9's in the quarter with NO juice....remember...this is 9 seconds in 1982!!!
