Default 1969 Trans Am Spoiler

I just had a customer bring in an aftermarket Trans Am spoiler over the weekend and I don't know if I should fix it or go surfing!. It is extremely wavey and I'm not overly impressed by how it matches up with the quarter panel and trunk profile. I am assuming there are a couple different manufacturers and this is hopefully the lower quality. I just don't want to sink a ton of labor into this one if it will save the customer money to just return it and start with a better piece.

Got on on my '69. POS - dips in the middle ~ 1/2" and doesn't fit the trunk lid worth a $h!t.

Kinda sad multiple people were sold an inferior product without any mention from the catalog company about the obvious flaws in the items discription. I know other catalog company's mention something about that products quality in the discription so the customer can know what quality to expect since they aren't able to see it and feel it in person.

I'm the customer.

The worst part is I paid $250 for a spoiler I can't use. If I want to return it to PY I have to pay for shipping and a restocking fee.

It is a reoccurring theme.

If you are not happy with your purchase, contact PY and give them a chance to make it right. They are great people that truely do care about customer satisfaction.

If that doesn't work, post your complaint in the PY Customer Satisfaction Forum above. Take your emotions out of it and just post the facts and data with pictures.

If that doesn't get you the result you want, then complain in the tech forums section.

Rob

I had some issues with my aftermarket fit. The length was good, the curvature was decent fit to the 1/4's, but the top was not very flat at all. I had to blend the curve some to fit the repro 1/4's (Dynacorn), and had to spend prolly 8 hours making the top of it flat like it's supposed to be. I actually broke thru the glass trying to get it right, meaning I had to rut out a piece and reconstruct material on the inside of an inaccessible cavity (major PITA). In the end, it was faster (not cheaper) for me to get it fixed vs. if I had sent it back for another which more than likely have been the same or worse....and I would have been out more money for shipping.

These pics are on my 69 Camaro (don't judge me....I like it) that I built....

Believe it or not, that spoiler is dead flat, top and bottom....

I contacted PY Customer Service and sent them a link to this thread. I'll update everyone when I hear back.

All the after market 69 T/A wings I have seen are lumpy and wavy, like any other after market fiberglass part. The wings I make are near perfect but cost alot more.

John,

Do you make a glass wing or just Carbon?

Rob, Thanks for the input. I wasn't calling out any supplier in particular (no names were mentioned). As the guy installing the part I just wanted to see what everyone elses response to it was and if there is a better one out there. I don't want to sink 10 hours into this wing if we can get a higher quality wing for a couple bucks more and save the customer the difference.

No problems here. I was just suggesting a different course of action based on my experience with PY.

CCASS (The owner of PY) prefers that you call and try to work things out with his staff. He also monitors the PY Satisfaction Forum and personally responds to many of the posts in that section.

Restocking and shipping return charges typically don't apply to a defective part.

I can make them Glass or Carbon. Mine are way more than a couple of bucks more and your customer will not save money buying my wing, but he will have a far nicer piece, no matter how many hrs you put into one of the other wings on the market. I sell real quality for real money. I cannot sell quality for less than it costs to make.

"My numbers don't match, but my family loves me anyway"

Sometimes at shows, people read it, smile and walk away...those are car guys. Other people read it and have to find me to explain it.

It's just to get back at the guys who think that if it's not numbers matching, then it's not worth anything......I chose an LS1 and a 6 speed....and it's still appraised at more than it would have been stock.

I want $1000 or what would you pay? Mine are hollow, but could easily be filled with foam.
