I think it's just porosity too.
Have your machine shop inspect it
just to ease your mind and for there
exspereance. Seeing it in person
would be better. jmo.

Your hone is fine. It's the angles that made it look flat in the other pic. To me it looks like it was done in a Sunnen CK-10 or CV-616 with a 623[280 grit] stone, and then plateau honed afterwards. Does the hone finish feel smooth or like a finger nail file when you drag your finger nail up it? I'm guessing it feels smooth. Smooth is from a plateau brush being used to break down the sharp peaks on the crosshatch. Better for your rings that way and easier for them to seat. You'll be fine.

I'd be worried that entire piece may come off. I would tap on it from the top and side with a ball peen, maybe a punch, see if it comes off or moves around. Even if it comes off, you can still dress it, and it doesn't look like it's going to go into the fire ring area. Remember, it's iron, so it's somewhat malleable.
