I'm not understanding your terminology, as in 'link'. Which link are you talking about? The z bar? The holes in the z bar should all 'just' fit the rods that attach. Should be no play. Maybe post a pic. Same with the 'countershaft link'.

There's 2 adjustments, one is 'free play', and the other is 'air gap'. Air gap is the amount of distance between the disc and the flywheel when the pedal is depressed all the way. That is usually done with a feeler gauge, and the clutch manufacturer dictates that. 3/16" I believe is max, in general, just to give you an idea. Free play is when the clutch pedal is at rest, and is measured at the rod where it meets the fork. You push the linkage away from the fork to take up all the slack, and the distance between the rod and fork is free play. That, in general, should be like roughly 1/4".

Keep in mind that the pressure plate fingers 'grow' as RPMs increase, particularly on weight-assisted pressure plates. So there needs to be some slack to allow for that. If not, it will slip under RPM/load. Also, the marcel in the disc needs to compress some too.

EDIT: Air gap general specs are diaphram - .030 - .040 , Borg Beck - .040 - .050
