Not necessarily a war movie but a good military movie Gardens of Stone show the stateside conflict about Vietnam.
"Here's to us and those like us damn few left"
I also like Black Hawk Down that is a great movie. The scene that really hit me was the guy who gets back to the base after the humvees are shot up and says I can't go back out there. Then just before the humvees take off again the jumps back in because he is doing it for his buddies and fear be damned.

Ah, good selection, Zeebo. I could agree with all the selections made here, except The Patriot. I didn't like Hamburger Hill either.

When it comes to old war movies, Von Ryan's Express has always been my hands down favorite.
Tora, Tora, Tora is probably my favorite non-fiction war movie.

A couple of my favs that have not yet been mentioned here:
Escape From Sorbibor
The Bridges at Toko-Ri

Back at you Brother. I still have a problem with Nam documentaries too.

Didn't much care for Platoon as it centered on fraggin and drugs, primarily grass. Maybe that was going on but not in my unit.

Ahh, I forgot about "The Bridges At Toko-Ri". Another great film for WWII warbird fans, they flew Grumman F9F-2 Panthers in that film (VF-192 "Golden Dragons" squadron), and the cinematography (filmed in Technicolor) is outstanding.

Two minutes worth, and it looks much better on DVD, much more colorful. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DHZ8HrVqrWE

I liked "Gardens of Stone" as well.
