I served three years in the Army as a TV/Radio tech, 1982-1985.
Fort Polk Louisiana. One of the armpits of the world.

My Dad served in the Navy, flying PV-2s out of Kaneohe Bay during WWII.
He got Hawaii, I got Louisiana....

Looks like us Marines are in the minority.
I was in 67 to 73.
Never left stateside.

I have two cousins who were in the Marines.
My brother was Air Force.
My dad and his two brothers were all Army.

My youngest son was Navy but got discharged after a brown recluse spider bite on board ship. He has an ugly scar from the bite and skin grafting.

I was in the Ohio Air National Guard (164th Fighter Squadron)from 1960-1963 got activated during the Berlin Crisis for a year, when we reverted back to the Guard I transferred to the AF Reserve to a Recovery Squadron in late 63-64 when that unit was disbanded. I then went on inactive status until my 6 years were up.

I served in the Air Police. Back in 1964 I came within 30 days of getting a direct commission as a 2nd Lt. from a Airman 1C, with a little know program. I was required to have continued service prior and during my transfer from the Air Guard to the AF Recovery Squadron there was a 30 day delay that disqualified me due to loss of continued service.

I always wondered what would have happened if I had received the direct Commission?

It's nice to see so many honest veterans..I can't tell you how many people have said they were in Force Recon, or Seals. I only knew one Force Recon Marine for real, but I do know about half a dozen Navy who were real Seals. The last jerk I met said he was a tunnel rat..in 1980..what tunnels? And his Uncle refused the MOH in Nam..I just walk away..

Welcome Home..

Had a high school buddy who served on the Ranger during that time frame.
