64 reverb switch
Is the 64 switch different than the 65-67? The restoration book shows a switch on the lower dash to the right of the steering column, and 65-7 in the usual spot on the instrument panel. I don't remember from 40 years ago. Was the switch in 64 ever put on the instrument panel? Thanks!
Edit: It is the defogger switch we need, not the reverb... Thanks Bob! Last edited by 65Mark; 07-03-2012 at 09:01 PM. Reason: Wrong switch |

The physical switch is the same 64 - 67, but 64 - 65 bezel and knob are different than 66 - 67. 64 - 65 switch mounts at the top of the dash bezel, same as 66 - 67. Only switch that mounts in the lower is 64 - 65 is power top and defogger.

Crap....
Thanks Bob. It was the defogger that was in question. I'm getting rummy here. It's the defogger switch that we need then. We have a 66 switch. We've been going around in circles trying to get this ready for the Pontiac Picnic in the Park on the 14th in Enumclaw, I don't think we'll make it. Do you have a switch? Steph is going to look but he didn't think so. |

The defogger switch for the 1964 sits in a 1 in. x 1.5 in. opening in the dash. This opening is below the windshield wiper control knob. The switch is moved up or down to activate vs. the rotating switch used in later models. The first two pictures below show two rectangular switches for the '64, and one switch used after '65.
I also included a couple of pictures of the defogger. Note the difference in the motor housings for the '64 (two pictured) and the housing used in later models. The wire connector is different for the '64, as it pushes onto a brass pin on the motor housing. The Defogging Blower Gasket (Part No. 9776181 shown with tape measure - gasket in background is for a later model) measures 1/2 in. thick, and is made of high density foam rubber. Surprisingly, for all of the years this sat in the back window, the gasket is still rather supple. Hope this helps. |

Thanks guys. I appreciate the help. On to the quest for a defogger switch.

That would be the switch for a dealer installed power antenna.
