motor mount question
I have a 69 gto and have a 1970 455 out of a "big car" says the code anyway. Can I not just buy 1970 455 gto mounts and be ok? Arent they the same block?
Also, are the frame mounts suppose to hang over the front of the frame cradle? This is where the bolts line up but looks strange to me. Sorry for the rediculous questions but this car had a 350 chevy crate engine in it when i bought it and wish i had taken it apart myself. Thanks.. |

The GTO engine mounts won't fit your 69 frame mounts.
Just use the 69 engine mounts on the engine. The engine has the extra bolt bosses to use them.

That would be the 455 frame mounts, won't work.
Use the 69 frame mounts. (and 69 engine mounts)

Ok, thanks guys. I'll use the 69 frame mounts and get some 69 400 mounts. I now have to figure out where to bolt them to the block to get everything to work. I'm starting with a bare frame here with nothing to judge really on exact placement. I'll start at the rear axle and work my way to the front I guess.
Which actually leads to my next question. The trans crossmember has no bolts. All it has is rubber pads on each end and sits in place for lack of a better term. Is this correct? And if so, what keeps it in place once the car torques up while hammering it. Seems a bit strange to me but this was how it was in there before. The frame has several holes for bolts but no holes in crossmember. I just called and found these locally so I'll be playing with it tonight maybe. I'm surprised they had them on the shelf but were in a warehouse 10 miles away and will be there by 3pm Last edited by grdn24; 06-12-2012 at 02:01 PM. |
