Default nearly stalling out on low speed turns

As I get through my long list of quirks in my car, I come to this one. This is weird, but my car wants to stall when circling my parking deck at work. It does it a little if I hard brake at stoplights and such, but seriously, around a turn at 10mph? WTH?

What carb are you running? Do you have a wide band O2 set up? I had similar issues running a quick fuel 850 carb. I read somewhere that the jet extensions in rear would cause the braking problems. I removed mine with no change. I then dropped the float levels and that fixed the problem braking and turning.

Reason I ask about the wideband, I run one and was able to see that it was going fat before stalling. Very good system for tuning and these types of issues. Got mine from Summit for about $250.

No wideband yet. I'm running a QuickFuel 735VS. Maybe it's something weird with QFT carbs. I guess I'll pull it and see if there's a jet extension in the rear. So leave the one in front? Also, where did you put your floats? QuickFuel says halfway up the sight glass.

If you have power steering it will also pull down the rpm to the point of stall if idled too slow.

idle is around 900-1000, would the power steering pump really pull it down that far?

There should be no jet extensions in the front. If you have a spec sheet with your carb it should list whether or not you have the extensions in the rear. Float level should be about 1/2 up in the sight glass. Your idle RPM should be about right. But just as a test I would up the idle speed a couple of hundred RPMs and see if the problem still exists.

to check the power steering. just put it in gear and turn your wheel all the way and see if it wants to stall. if not check your float level on the carb. or just bump the idle up a 200 rpms... good luck

For a test - pull the power steering belt and go for a ride. Eat Wheaties first.

I had my fuel level half way up the glass before fixing the problems with stopping and turning. Mine likes to be at the bottom of the sight glass. I would not worry about the jet extensions at all. They did nothing to help my stalling. Just lower the float level to bottom of sight glass and give it a try. If it cures the turns but still stalls with moderate fast stops, then try the jet extensions. If it is not a drag race carb, it should not have the jet extensions.
