Default Project: Kiwi

Hi, I'm Ben and I'm the new kid on the block. I found this t37 on eBay and got it for a whopping $700 which is a great deal for any a-body in this area. Shortly there after I made the 13 hour drive to New Jersey to pick her up. Her she is in all her glory:

I was surprise that the floors had no rust and the only real attention needed is what the previous owner did in his attempts to patch the right quarter panel. The car was originally limekist green with the dark green interior and dark green vinyl top. Sexy. Anyways, I think I'm going to start a project thread and update with pictures and ideas of what direction it's going as the build goes along.

Congrats on your purchase. Tow things I discovered since buying by Craigslist 71 Lemans Sport about 1 1/2 years ago. You must have passion and patience while owning these cars. Drove mine for the first time yesterday

You got yourself a good buy there. This proves that there are still some good deals left.
How do you plan to build it? 350? 400? 455? or? how about color combo.

Good luck with it and if you have any questions, there are plenty of us here who know these cars pretty good.

The original 350 and 2 speed are going back in it for the time being. I want to do a 455 but I have no experience with Pontiac engines. I feel way more comfortable doing an lsx swap so I might go that route. Colors are going to stay limekist green and probably going to keep the dark green interior.

Looks like a great deal.. nicely scored ! Hope it brings you joy.

Limekist would be what year? 71? my lemans is (OK, was) 70 palisade with the same highly-coveted dark green interior and vinyl top, but mine doesn't look as good as yours yet...

I had a 70 Tempest many years ago that had a cloth interior.. does the T-37 have cloth or vinyl?

Would be cool to track your progress.. those threads are always a great way for me to learn and keeps me motivated...

These cars did not come with 2 speeds. What is an "Isx"? never heard of such a thing.

Didn't come with a powerglide? My shift selector on the steering column only has a "D" and "L". LSx is short for any variation of an LS engine; ls1, ls2, ls3, etc etc.

Nice score, Ben. Should be a really cool ride when you're done. If you go with the original color, be prepared for the comments about that shade of green (actually, any green). Personally, I really like that color as my first car was set up exactly as yours: Limekist, Jade interior, dark green vinyl top. The scanned pic, from 1982, is my first car, picked up senior year in high school: '71 LeMans Sport, 350 2bbl, TH350. Had to put up with a lot of comments on the color but I didn't care. Held on to it until 2007. It was a great car!

Welcome to the boards. Keep us updated with your progress!

Just a bit of an update here. Our work finally went to a five day a week schedule and I got some time to work on the car. It took my three hours to completely remove everything on the firewall, interior and the parts holding the body to the frame. But, it took another six hours getting it off. LOL

Bumping this up. Managed to get the car stripped to bare metal and that's about it. Going to need quarters some fender work and some love to the lower cowl. :/ I just sold my Nova so I should have some more time to work on this thing.

Same '71 color as my first Cutlass many moons ago.

This about all I've gotten to in the past few days. Rear window has zero rust but the front is looking pretty rough. :/
