Edelbrock 8856 and 88563 High Performance Water Pumps
I’m looking to go with a high volume water pump and I’ve found somewhat disappointing, or at the very least, mixed reviews on most of the units out there. These all were around the $100 range, with most under that amount. You can find reviews on all of these, but the Edelbrock 8856 has not one! OK, this thing must have a 24k gold core coming in around $240, but how effective is it? This thing might be the best pump hands down for cooling performance, but has anyone coughed up enough money to make this discovery? One would assume if there were several out there and they were disappointing, there would be someone motivated to share the experience. Does anyone have this pump and have any feedback to report?

I do not. BUT, I have heard that the Evans pump is probably the best on the market. It has more vanes and a higher vane height than almost all of the the pumps out there. Also it has a air bleeder petcock installed on top.
My Napa has been working fine, but I currently have the front cover off for a cam swap. I am thinking of this upgrade. The Evans pump is like 185$~ish... I am sure you can fine hundreds of links, but here is one.. http://www.nitemareperformance.150m.com/wpump.html

The Evans pump looks like a contender with an interesting impeller design. Oddly enough, the only place I can find it for sale is the Nightmare Performance link you provided. Both the manufacturer of the Evans and retailer appear reputable. I found an engine they built for a giveaway and used the Evans pump so they must have faith in it. I did have a private replay from someone with the Edelbrock that is very pleased with the performance. Private or not, I welcome any real experience with either pump.

On another forum, I spoke with a car guy who actually works at Evans. He said that they sell a lot of those pumps. They never have returns. He didn't offer a discount. Actually he said the price was a little higher than Nitemare.
I know a few guys have had great success with the Evans. Just in case. My car ran super cold with a Napa pump and a properly clearanced divider plate.

Got an Evans Pump for my .030 455 some years ago from Nitemare. Works very well keeping a 1966 Tempest cool with AC on. Very well made cast iron peice, with a large cast iron impeller.

On the nitemare site they mention that the Evans pump is 4.5 inches tall. Is that different than a stock pump?
Thanks, Russ |

What that means is the length of the pump. Early 11 bolt water pumps were 4" long. That require a different set of pulleys etc..
If you have a, I believe mid 69 or later, it will have the 4.5" length pump.
