Default Recommendations on shocks for 67' GTO

The title says it all. This will be a 95% street car that i beat the dog piss out of on occasion. I'm looking for ride quality around town and on the highway for the most part. Any suggestions?

KYB gas-a-just shocks on all 4 corners. I ran them on my car for a few years, and they worked great. They don't "float" at high speed and dampen road bumps pretty well. I switched to the CE drag shocks because I'm 75% strip and the KYBs aren't adjustable. They sure ride better than the CE, however. With the fronts set at 80/20, I feel every freaking road bump in the front end.

I'll PM you if I still have all 4 of the KYBs.

Get Bilsteins or the Edelbrocks. Have those KYBs on my 72 Firebird and they're a hard, stiff ride especially over any uneven road.

Edelbrock does not make shocks anymore...

If you can find your application - they are greatly discounted at Summit.

They are sold out for the early GTO's (64 - 67).

You get what you pay for. Konis are about the same price.

So If I was considering going with a KYB on there, would I be better off with a standard $20 Autozone Monroe? That's what most people run on their daily driver vehicles and they work well right?

I agree but I decided to buy a Moser 9" rear end housing instead of a Mark Williams. I bought a nice piece but i cannot afford the best of everything on this car.

I had the KYBs on my 66 for years and then recently replaced them with the standard $20 Autozone Monroes. Maybe I got used to the KYBs, but the Monroes feel too soft to me. I am going to switch back.

I like the KYB's. Back when you had the American shocks like Monroe and Gabriel the only choice was a Koni. Then the KYB's came along and yes they were $25 per shock compared to the $15 ones but they were not $75 each like the Koni's.

They also have a lifetime warranty. I got a set exchanged last year that I bought in 1984. I paid $105 for the set of 4 back then. I think they are a good balance between price and performance.

Trivia time. First American car with gas shocks? It was a Pontiac. Name it.

been using the KYB's now for about 20 years on the '67 never had a complaint. started using them on the older broncos and light pick ups back in the '80-90's and was really happy so put some on the goat, again no issues.
nice and firm but not too harsh, decent ride, still working good, no leaks. I was looking for a bit more firmness than a stock shock and am happy with the ride. not sure what the cost is now but back when I bought them they seemed reasonable.

+1 for the Bilsteins. I only run Bilsteins on any vehicle I own. Or at least I replace with bilsteins when needed. I love them.
