Default CFR Performance valve covers

Has anyone purchased a set off these guys

They offer Pontiac fabricated valve covers from $179

They even have a finned to-p vesrion that looks pretty cool

After feedback on them if anyone has it

Cheers

One of the guys here has a set on his '69 'bird. He seems to be pleased with them and even though the rails are a bit thinner than the other sheet metal covers, he didn't have any issues with sealing.

I'm going to try a set of these.

http://www.jgangracing.com/Pontiacv8.htm

There are a lot of nice covers out there but the real nice ones are still quite expensive.

I would like to try a set as well. Do these type of covers have enough clearance for the brake booster on 2nd gen Trans Ams.

Sorry to hear,
Mine are already on the way. I decided on these finally because they will make custom height at no extra charge. I ordered mine 3.00 in. tall for clearance with some turbo plumbing and was assured they wouldn't leak

The covers are 3.75" tall so they will NOT fit with the 2nd gen 'birds from '70-'78.
The '79 t/a with 400 engine uses a smaller diameter booster and allows clearance for the tall covers.
Here's the complete line-up of covers for pontiac.

Thanks Larry. I like the look of the HZ-6519's. They are a beautiful cover and a great price, but they are 3.75" tall as well, so they won't work either. Damn!!!

I purchased a set once and thought they were junk also. I was buying them for a customer's motor and I showed them to him and told him what I thought, he wanted to use them anyway. But I do have to say they've been on there all summer and are not leaking...and alignment was fine.

Can anyone tell me what the thickness of the CFR covers is? Is it .090", .125", or ????

I think Butler sells the short fabbed covers. You might check with them.

Agree! But here's what I did.Bought a 4 wheel disc brake booster for a 2nd gen T/A on ebay for $35.00. Was a simple direct bolt on. With absolutely no other changes(except I had to eliminate the bolt on bracket attached to the pedal to get my brake light to go off). Braking power is a lot better w/ less effort than before. Factoring in time and money it is the BEST thing I ever did for my T/A. Larry

they make a cover with a notch for the booster. Is that sufficient for a 70-78? http://www.cfrperformance.com/product_p/hz-6520-1.htm

Reviving an old thread here. Are folks still happy with CFR Valve covers? I need a set that clamps better than stamped steel and there's no way I want to pay $300+ for a chunk of aluminum.

Thanks!!

Love em'. I use the thick cork #1627 felpro gaskets, I have e-heads so you know oil is setting in the back of the heads, zero leaks, excellent fit, unbeatable price. the only thing I did was remove the shroud on the underside at the oil fill holes to clear my stud girdles. and if you wanna run spark plug wire looms as i do, this is the only kind I found with the bolt holes as stock instead of up on top.

Thanks Judge that's the feedback I was looking for. Do you have any concerns with the breathers? It looks like it's not a baffled hole - all good there too?

PS - that's a fine looking motor, good job !!

they come with a baffle "plate" tac welded at the breather holes yes. I removed mine because I have stud girdles and the baffle plates hit the girdles. not certain what you mean by "concerns with the breathers" ?

thank you for the compliment
