Default TH350 kickdown cable

Kickdown cable has been disconnected at the carb since the beginning; would like to get it out of the way. Can I cut it off 4 or 5" from where it goes into the tranny or will that create a leak through the cable? Don't have time to get the trans out where I can install a pipe plug; just trying to get by until summer when I will have the tranny out.

Mine is cut off, filled it with silicon to keep it from leaking, it will leak otherwise.

Thumbs up

I was told it needs to be hooked up and working or you can damage the tranny, i ran my car for several years ,without it, before reconnecting it. maybe Cliff R can shed some light on this?

If you reamoved the cable all you need is a small press in plug like a block plug no threads needed. The kick down cable increases the vb pressures during the kick down process. If/when you manually put the tranny into low it will increase the vb pressure. JD

The down shift feature isn't wanted or needed on the TH350 for a strong running street/strip car. We tap the case for NPT threads and install a pipe plug. Nothing wrong with leaving the cable in place and not hooking it up....Cliff

Thanks guys, I just wanted to 'clean up' the engine compartment a bit but no big deal; I can wait until summer to remove it and put in a pipe plug. Shop that rebuilt the tranny and installed the shift kit said not to hook up the kick down cable which has always been my understanding if you are running a manual valve body.

I have found the TH400 shifts way too early at WOT with kickdown-lead disconnected.
This may not be the case with a TH350?
