My internet is so slow i only looked at a couple pix, but definitely checking out the rest of them later.

It wasn't ordered with hood bird, but i had an NOS one still in the GM tube that went with the car. So maybe that decal was still good.

Sort of too bad the shop didn't rebuild the original master cyl.
It was day one unit.
So were the rotors and drums. And pretty much everything else except 1 repaint.
Very fantastic car. Still amazes me i had such a thing.

He also has a White 74 SD he restored before he bought my 73.
Very great guy and i'm glad he bought it.
He'll probably keep it even longer than i did.
Hi BVZ:
the restoration is done, and i am enjoying both SD's very much, how have you been have not heard from you in a while

I need to try to make a visit this spring or fall and see that machine again in person.
You guys really went the full measure and it looks dynamite !
Such a Killer Car

It looks very happy in the pictures too.
Thanks for sharing with us.

Some more background for other readers:

I bought this car in 1989 when i was 25 - from the original owner.
Complete Miracle for a young working class car guy.

Lifelong garage kept car.
Paid same sticker price he paid. [insert heart attack]
Which was about 10-15k below market at that time.
Immediately received a standing offer for 18k after i got it home.
Kept it until Feb 2009.

If i ever start playing the lottery - and win - i'll try to buy it back.

Lots of memories and stories tied in with it.
Third or fourth oil change after i got it - i blew the oil filter off of it right after doing the oil change.
Thought that 10/w40 would be good for it in the summer - even though the valve cover decal said otherwise. Revved it too soon before it reached temperature - saw some smoke from undehood - oil pressure gauge dropped - shut it off and looked underneath - puddle of oil in driveway. Felt REAL SICK all of a sudden .....

Was relieved when it was just the filter hanging off, but still worried.
Maybe the Slick50 from a previous servicing helped. idunno
No harm done- but went back to 10/w30 and stayed with it all the way.

PEGGED the tach 3 different ocassions.
All were accidental - but made my knees tremble and my stomach shake for a while each time.

Other than those few blurbs - Always took good care of it and respected it.
So did everyone else. Everybody loved that car.
Lot of comments about that it always looked like it was so happy / smiling all the time.

Used to do some high speed burnouts from a strait rolling start on up through the middle of 3rd gear just to show off and intimidate when enough people were gathered.
Car would take off hauling azz and stay sideways all the while - straiten a little on the shift - but go right back sideways after the shift until next shift. Was said to be a beautiful sight, but never got video'd.
It was an overwhelming rush doing that stuff too.

Nobody ever parked too close to it, or ever wanted to race it.
Was almost like being The Fonz and John Milner at the same time. haha
Loved that Car

Damn that restoration looks spectacular - but honestly I'd have driven & enjoyed it just the way it was. Congratulations on a great car.

Todd, you must have been king of the hill back in 1989!

Default Missing a block ?

In the for sale section is a 74 block that goes with the car in the registry and needs to be re-united with the car if possible?

http://www.sd455registry.com/cgi-bin/sd1.cgi

It's a 74 455, 4 bolt main
490132
W8
The block Vin is tough to read but this is what I got..
24?149644
The question mark I think is an *N*?
It's .040 over right now, and it REALLY nice shape. We are going to hot tank it, mag it, and machine it this week. I'll have pictures up shortly.

$2,500 OBO. Fully machined and ready for a final cleaning and assembly.

If anyone knows of the car and or owner please inform or post in order to make this reunion happen.
Thanks,
Brew

Brew, I think that vin is in the registry because of the block.

There is or was a 74 red SD owned by a farmer between Durham and Chapel Hill, NC .

I recall it was talked up as original but think the original engine was swapped out says guy I bought some Pontiac 455s from.

Small world maybe?

Sounds like one sweet SD! I'm partial to auto / A/C cars . . .

Do you have the VIN, by chance? If so don't post it here, rather do a search on John Wallace's SD registry. link below:

http://www.sd455registry.com/455%20SD%20Registry.html

Good luck!

Bluebird is the blue/black SD a T/A or Formula?

Lloyd I think one of Ernie Z's SD T/As was a blue/black '74. This could be the one Bluebird is referring to.
