Default Anyone ship a Manual Trans Before?

I have a gentleman here on the forum wanting a price to ship a cast iron Muncie 3spd and shifter to him. Problem is I'm in Indiana and he's in NY.

Can anyone tell me how they've done it and what it cost?

Thanks,
Joe

price varies with company's and speed but id say $50 is in the ballpark
may also consider checking trucking companies rates also but as said greyhound is a good choice

Lightbulb Joe - have the Buyer choose the Shipper

Joe,

Have the Buyer choose the Shipper.

If you build the crate & the transmission is damaged in any way,
you will be blamed.

To ensure a used engine or transmission to arrive in the same condition
that it left in requires the same trailer to be used with the same
driver door to door.

Thumbs up Shipping a trans

Joe
I'm having one shipped from Iowa to NJ.
All arrangements were made by the person I bought the parts from.
$72.00 to my business address for a M20, bell housing and fork.

If you can make arrangements with Jim @ trulyVintage, that would be the best and safest way to go.

Another option if cost is no issue is to take it to a UPS store or similar, have them pack it and and ship it. Fed Ex ground is probably cheaper, but then I think you are on your own to pack it. Old Man Taylor posted some transmission crade photos back in June. I don't know who to link it so you might have to search it, if interested in building a crate.

Thank you for that ...

I am not trying to drum up business by posting on this thread.
I have no trips planned for where this tranny needs to go.

Whenever anyone contacts me about transport for a vehicle or parts,
I try to give them the best advice regarding transport ...

Usually it does not involve my services.

But, if you really are trying to help, you do what you think is best
in every situation - and every situation is different.

I know from dealing with Buyers & Sellers, the Seller takes a risk
(sometimes a big risk) finding - recommending - facilitating transport.

That applies to a vehicle or parts ...

Murphy' Law can apply - if anything goes wrong with the transport,
the Buyer sometimes will try to hold the Seller responsible if the
Seller helped to facilitate transport in any way ....

My experience has been, if you sell a transmission or engine,
unless you have a ready made crate or pallet built specifically
for commercial transport - don't try & build one.

Carrier claims will be denied if damage occurs - the carrier
will blame the container integrity - I have seen that happen.

Some folks use Greyhound or Uship - both have pros & cons.

That is a decision for the Buyer to make.
