Hi Tom,

RA-V heads are done. Lynn can post the details on them when he gets a chance, no flow numbers yet. Bottom end is ready to be assembled. Headers will be done up to the collector V-band flange today.

Well, I cant wait to get this thing on the dyno. It is a street engine with street valve train and a street cam with multiport fuel injection. We will be able dyno a dual function. A street engine 535 FI normally aspirated, and then turbo charged.

Beutiul car. That motor is going to be a beast. I don't know about the west side of the Cascades, but on the east we are done racing for the year.

Thanks to Ed Page for his support on this project. It has taken a bit longer than projected as Tony was inundated with engine projects. We also have had a few set backs. It takes a lot of time to do things for the first time. For example, we had to write the valve placement program for alternate valve order, design CNC porting program, order RAV cam design for turbo engines, build special headers for the 69 Firebird. A big time investment has been the special RAV fuel injection.
This is a street engine with street valve train. It is designed to make 2200HP of a base engine that produces 751HP normally aspirated I fully expect to make way more horsepower base which should translate into an easier target with boost and a better number with pump gas. If we make the engine very efficient, then the higher numbers with pump gas can be achieved. Attached is the design criteria from Dave Austin at Turbonetics.

Dave -- looking at the sheet it would seem that 34 psi is in the boom boom range. I also read the psi ratio as becoming and issue -- over 2.5 at 25 lb of boost seems high --and could contribute to some problems -- only after we went to a larger turbine wheel and housing did the backpressure get fixed -- dont pay for it twice - look into this issue

We dont expect 751HP normally aspirated, and we dont expect to do 34 PSI. We are just being conservative on our design. I am hoping to achieve 2200HP with a much lower boost number. My goal is 25-PSI. Of course the biggest goal is how much HP we can get with pump gas.

Well Stacys car is knocking on the 8's door with 700ish HP (9.11 is his best time.) This engine in Stacys car will run 7s if you leave the turbos off and install a Q-jet. It takes a lot of experience. With this kind of car it is necessary to be safe and do it conservatively.

We are about 400 cfm with the emphasis on BIG. We believe that cross sectional area is what a turbo engine is going to want. Especially for these two 88MM Turbonetics!! The exhausts are around 260. We didnt spend huge bucks like racers do porting the heads. These are just CNC for about $2500 and similar to the street heads done. Tony charges three times that for a good set of race heads, ie Super Stock, and over $12k for our Pro Stock style heads.(Similar to Langer's)
We moved the intake valve over 0.050, but then it put us back to the same spot as stock by using the 2.300 intake valve. The bore 4.35 gives us about 0.100 clearance between the intake valve and the cylinder wall. However, we dont have intake port choke to deal with on the size of these ports. We would need Tom V to tell us the virtues of CSA of the intake port to see if it impacts a Turbo motor like this as much as a NA engine. Tom Vaught has been so very instrumental in helping us with this Turbo project. We cannot thank him enough for putting us together with Turbonetics and helping us along of the way.
