Taking a simple look at the wallace calculator, and rather than run et numbers, I ran some mph numbers. MPH in conjunction with weight is more of a true indicator of the actual hp that the engine might make. A vehical can have a poor suspension or spin the tire and yet the mph will not really be impacted, the et will.

I see that Jamey has already run his car. I assume with the previous engine (reading his posts) prior to the new plant. I also see that Jim's customer has actually run his car with his new engine.

I have used two examples into this calculator and based upon Jameys old engine (not the new one), his old mph was 131 and his vehicle weight was 3550. Just for the sake of it I subtracted 1 mph and ran in 130 at 3550. That computes out to be 641HP.

I took the same formula and ran in Jims 4500 pound car and a mph of 125 which I believe the car ran 124 and change. This computes out to be 641HP as well.

If Jameys engine only made 643, then it should actualy go out and run the same mph as it did before. I am having a very tough time believing it is going to run the same mph being that it has an increased stroke, roller camshaft and what ever other goodies that where done to it.

Here is the wallace calculator http://www.wallaceracing.com/et-hp-mph.php

Sincerely,

The unknowing

Cool deal...A call out.
Not sure how our build/performance is supposed to stack up with an unknown formula but here are a few questions/thoughts.
Where did the equation came from?
How does your equation factor in drivetrain efficiency, convertor efficiency, coefficient of drag and transient response to name a few?

Jamey has a very nice combination hope he receives as much enjoyment with his as we have with ours.

Well the weather gods were very, very mean this weekend! 6+ inches of snow and chilly temps. Got one more shot next weekend to see what this thing can do.

I will give an update if I get to make some passes, until then somebody send some nice weather this way!!!

Going out to shovel....yeah.

Jamey

transient response = shift recovery?? How is that measured?

Measured on an Inertia Dyno. Basically measures how easily and quickly the engine accelerates the load attached. Units are in seconds.

Do you test your engines to see how well they recover?

I was able to get down to Atco N.J. last night and got to make two runs. There were some delays and oil downs but I got those first passes out of the way!

I think it did pretty good. Here are the time slips. This coming Saturday I should have good daytime video and an in car camera and hopefully go some rounds.

Also met the new owner of Jeff Verdis firebird. Nice guy and said he was enjoying the car alot. Most importantly it still had a pontiac motor in it!

Thanks Jamey

Congrats.

Thats pretty impressive, regardless of all the heresay. Anytime you can take a factory iron head, normally aspirated, on gas and on a 10 inch tire, into the 9.70 range at 3550 pounds, i'd say thats a pretty good accomplishment.

Nice job Jamey. With those mph's, you should be a tenth quicker. Work on the 60'.

Since you have the dyno sheet, I would definitely get a new converter. That'll pick up the 60' for sure.

I have a gopro video to share. Went a 9.69 @ 135 third round yesterday.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gn4lOk--MbU

Working on downloading the camcorder video.

Thanks everyone again for the compliments. The car ran well and I'm already looking forward to next year. Tracks are pretty much closed after this weekend.

Jamey
