Default Flexplate install

Has anyone have a method or success installing a new flexplate without removing the motor or trans entirely in the the car. Will unbolting the trans at the cross member and pulling the trans back give you enough room to remove and replace the flexplate in a 69 GTO. Any info would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Deno
