1970 no dash backlights
So the only thing that lights up on my 70 GTO dash is the warning lights and the left turn signal. The rest, back lights, bright indicator ... and so on ... do not light up. I'm planning on pulling the dash next spring, but thought I would ask about the quick fix first ...

Check the dash and tail light and ignition fuses and for power and ground at the cluster connectors. May even have some bad bulbs or bad printed circuit.

+1. Bulbs can be changed with the dash still in the car. If the printed circuit is shot, wait until you get the dash out of the car.

May seem obvious but, did you check the dash light fuse? It is the small one. I knew a guy that drove his 70 GTO around for years without dash lights. He even installed an external lamp system mounted on the column so he could see his speedo at night. He told me how much it bothered him for so long. I took a look and his fuse was blown, fixed the problem in seconds........

It was the fuse .... I have lights again!
One more question .... the warning lights .. in the key on position the temp warning light does not light up ... should it? |

Temp light should go on when cranking. That's how the 67 was, and I bet the 70 is the same.

GEN only in 'start' position, just before cranking.
TEMP and OIL when cranking. If the TEMP/OIL senders are missing, lights wont lit. Senders are the grounds I believe. |

In run position, Oil on when pressure low.
Temp on when temp is too high or grounded when switch turned to crank position. |
