11 is correct (Mike's answer), I worked on the grease rack at the Pontiac dealer in my hometown in 1970.

OK, I found nine. On the ball joints attached to the upper control arms right behind each tire, I could not find a fitting. Is it there and I just can’t find it? Or maybe they have been replaced without a fitting?

Mud splashes up there and covers the fitting on the upper ball joint, you might need to do a little excavating if it hasn't been greased in awhile. One other possibility is that either the fittings are broken off in the ball joint or it was replaced by someone either too lazy or inexperienced to put the fittings in after they were done with the replacement. If you remove the wheel you should find it pointing due North, if it's not there dig around and find out why it's not there. All GM A body cars from that era and all the replacement ball joints I have seen or replaced myself have had grease fittings. You could have an odd ball, but I have never seen any without fittings.

OK, I learn something new every day, I wiped off all the crud to get down to bare metal and rubber, but I only felt the bolt studs.
I did not know that the grease fittings were threaded in, seems like they would have come already installed. I’ll pull the wheels and check one more time. I am getting too old to be squirming around underneath a GTO, but I just like finding out for myself if something’s been done or not done . . . . . Thanks again,

They don't come installed with new ball joints, you install them after your finished.

OK, thanks again, it is probably a universal part I can get from an auto parts store?

if the fitting is NOT there, check to make sure it wasnt snapped off previously if you didnt change them.
if you see a hole, a really tiny one, chances are that's what's happened and you'll need an easyout. IIRC, the hole should be about 3/16" of an inch or so in diameter, and threaded, to receive the zerk fitting. also be aware there are two different kinds of them at the parts stores - threaded and press in - you'll need the threaded ones unless by some odd chance the ball joints take press in.
