We are starting the restoration of a 63 Tempest with many rust issues.
Where has anyone come up with rust panels that worked for rear quarter panels, floor pans, outer wheel houses, etc? We are converting the front cowl, toe boards and floor pans to accomodate a regular transmission. Has anyone used a floor out of a specific car that worked well? Give me some suggestions if you have any. Thanks for your interest. If there are any parts car that can donate parts towards this one let me know what you have and how much. Thanks for any help bringing another Pontiac back into circulation. We will be getting the car back from media strip shop tomorrow and I can post pictures if anyone wants. |

With it being a one year only production car, You will need a donor car if you need 1/4 panels, rockers, etc. I dont think there is a big difference in the floor pans between the three years so you could probably use floor pans out of a 61-62 & make them work. Check the underside of the unibody real good as these can rust out bad enough to effect chassis strength. Just about anything can be fabricated if need be.
PS!!!!! Welcome to PY!!!!!!!!!!!!

I built the trans tunnel in my car as the floors were rust free. People have used floors from early '62-'67 Novas and '65 Oldsmobile F85's. So a '65 Chevelle or 64-65 lemans should also work. All kinds of reproduction floor pans out there for those cars. As Keith said, anything can be fabricated or modified to fit.

I've did a couple of these cars. It was just the easiest to cut out the bellhousing and driveshaft area and fabricate new too fit. Maybe if I had a another car just sitting around may have been a different story. These little gems take some imagination at times but there's lots of guys to help you out.

Years ago (1969) I used a transmission tunnel from a 60 Ventura, not many of those around today that you'd want to cut up though......Back then it was just an old car......

I've got a '63 trunk floor that extends over the transaxle hump that's free of all but a little surface rust. You can have it if you can figure out how to get it. I don't want to ship it, because it's six feet long from front to back and about 4 1/2 feet wide. I cut it out as close to the edge as possible with a flamecutter when I built my racecar. If you know someone from KS coming out to Pontiac Heaven on April 1st, I can bring it along to Phoenix when I come up and transfer it to them. Let me know.
