Default Changing the bolt pattern 70 GTO...

So...

I hate this bolt pattern... I want 5-114(the bolt pattern everyone uses(ford, mitsu, nissan, toyota, etc etc....).

I want alot more options on rims.

I FARKING HATE GM with their "Oh we are going to use 5-120!!!!" we are GM and we will do what we want...

We lead the industry(NOT)... Were GM!

Anyways rant over.

I want to use 5-114 bolt pattern on my 70 GTO.

Can I get "blank" front rotors?

I saw somewhere I could get axles with 5-114... That should be easy enough to find again.

Be sure to ask for 5-114.3mm so you don't get the wrong bolt pattern, same as 5-4.5".

You should be able to drill the new 5 on 114.3mm pattern on the GM 5 on 120.65mm front rotors (same as 5-4.75"). Here's a pic of some big Pontiac 5 on 5" rotors that were drilled to 5 on 4.75":

BMW is 5-120mm, not GM.

Moser Engineering will put whatever bolt pattern you want on their new axles for no extra charge.

The 120.65mm bolt pattern is stronger, but it does limit your wheel choices.

Seriously? Your bi#chin about a decision GM made over 40 years ago? There was a time when 5 on 4 3/4 was thee bolt pattern to have. So much so that companies made (and still make) adapters for the VW Bug to mount 5 on 4 3/4 inch bolt pattern wheel.

Your are joking right? More options for wheels? Dude, there are tons of choices for wheels for your 70 GTO

yes if you want a 5 spoke solid steel chromed cragars... yeah tons of choices...

seriously?

go to tire rack and select the rims for these cars...

there are 8... count them 8 TOTAL rims available...

if you go with the "rest of the world" you get hundreds upon hundreds and much cooler styles...

FACT... 4.5(aka 113.4) is the world most common bolt pattern...

YOU do realize 5-475 is not 5-120?

Seriously? Tire Rack is a great place, but it's not the first place I'd be looking for wheels for a musclecar. Even so, if you have the slightest clue of how to do a search and what other vehicles share the same bolt pattern, you'll find that Tire Rack has dozens of wheels that will fit on your GTO.

You seem to be very angry about having been "stuck" with a GTO. Perhaps you'd be happier with something that would look good with ricer rims?

55 different wheels from Centerline alone - and not one of them is a steel chromed Cragar...

http://centerlinewheels.com/wheel_deals_list.php

Just a few of the different styles:

All you have to do is look - and you can find plenty of different styles in 5x4.75" bolt pattern.

Seriously? I can name 20 wheel manufacturers that have a plethora of wheels for the GM intermediate pattern...
Wow, and here I was wanting a 5x5 pattern- better clamping load. Different strokes...

yes i know it the same as "trans am/camaro/corvette" rims...

And yes your still limited, I want options plain and simple..

Centerline(a few okay but generic..), cragar(meh) and some american racing(junk), other but you are still greatly "limited"... You know it and I know it so just admit it.

Stuff like HRE, Volks/Rays, BBS, SSR, CCW(they make some for ours)... down to some junky rims etc etc... in other words 95% of the rims out there...

And then once you get to the real world of rims your options expand in the used/discontinued world also...

what exact wheel are you wanting???? ive seen about every kinda wheel you could imagine on the small bolt pattern gm style, also just because you dont see a wheel advertised in the right pattern doesnt mean its not available.

lol, centerline=generic.......wth? i dont think your really looking to hard, and if the tire rack was the extent of your search, i say fine drill the new olt pattern, then most likely end up with a wheel that you coulda had with the original pattern!!!

how you gonna be mad at something that gm did on your car 40 years ago like asked before, as mad as you seam, i dont even see why you bought your gm car?

Why argue with the original poster?

If he wants to change the bolt pattern then he should do so, he now knows it can be done without too much fuss. It's not like it's any kind of permanent modification that can't be undone later on.

To each their own, some people prefer some of the newer wheels styles available and not all of these styles are sold in the 5 on 4.75" bolt circle.

I wasn't arguing, or even attempting to argue.

He said: "yes if you want a 5 spoke solid steel chromed cragars... yeah tons of choices..."

All I did was provide 55 other options from just a single manufacturer other than Cragar - and not one of them was "solid steel chromed" wheel".

I was trying to provide him with some other styles in a true alloy wheel.

Now I know everyone has an opinion - and they have a right to it.

But his basic premise, after apparently looking at only one source, was false.

The OP is the one who is arguing. I gave him 55 Centerline options.

His response: "Centerline(a few okay but generic..)"

I personally hate the looks of this Centerline rim, but the last thing I would call it is "generic" and it sure ain't a "solid steel chromed Cragar".

Ahem, I went to 5 x 5" pattern on the rear axles & no regrets...with...Half-Inch Studs

But the Lincoln Alloy Rim selections at 5 x 5" seem to interfere with the GM pattern & I'm not sure why.
================================================== =============
You know: Lincoln rims are sweet in 15" & 16" & would simplify my tire swap abilities.
Center caps would take on the PMD identification just fine.

yes these guys are arguing with me

how dare i question GM!!!

But thanks for those who answered.

I simply want the ability to have access to thousands of rims... hundreds of thousands...

I can choose used or discontinued if i want and not have to worry about the bolt pattern...

and that centerline is okay but its so common to see those on camaros and firebirds, honestly you see centerlines and cragars and fooses... yawn and boring.

i can get some cheap ccw classics for 114, i was thinking about those.

all kinds of options when i move to a common bolt pattern.

I saw this one also... eh dunno

I am thinking of going with gold or white rims, maybe orange? hah... never chrome... if i see another custom gto with chrome rims im going to puke.
Everytime the same thing... nice foose rims man! oh wait centerlines... oh wait cragars... yawn

I LOVE the way the rim is about 3" wider than the tread.

So change your friggen' bolt pattern and be done with it! There is no point in bitching about a decision GM made long before your beloved 5 on 114 became the "world standard".
