Default dash pad PONTIAC callout ?

The PONTIAC callout on the passenger side of the dash was painted over by the previous owner during a 'dye' job. Does anyone know if the letters are metal or are they plastic. I want to be careful on how I approach cleaning them up.

Thanks

Unless you have a variable speed Dremel, I wouldn't advise it; you would probably melt the letters.

You could lightly wipe laquer thinner on a rag over it to soften up the "dye" job then maybe hand buf/rub it with some compound to remove it. I wouldn't use a dremel for the reasons mentioned above.

Good chance the chrome finish is wore off the letters anyway. I would use some silver paint and a toothpic to touch them up. I just did one this way and it looks fine. Not as shiney but trying to remove the Pontiac emblem is very tuff without breaking it. I have a couple that are intact with the little sharp spears still on them but removed them from dashes that needed re-covered anyway.

I took my 72 GTO to a detail shop back in 1979. They used a polishing wheel on my dash and buffed the silver right off the emblem. When John Sawruk was still alive he recommended I repaint it with Argent Silver. I spayed some Argent Silver on a dish and dabbed on the face of the "PONTIAC" name plate. It came out great.

This is what I do with mine...and I use a tooth pick to apply it.

Does anyone know where to get one of the emblems? A friend of mine has a '72 and it's missing altogether.
