Three types of original spoilers for 70-71, Wideset, no bottom seam, and bottom seam.
Not sure they were available on 72 A bodies from factory? Lloyd,Pat or others would know if they saw a phs 72 wing option....

I'm pretty sure for 72 it was only a dealer installed item.

Bingo - there seem to be a very high percentage of them however!

What are the differences between the three? How do you tell a repop?

Rear Spoiler
I have an original spoiler on my '70 GTO, and the easy way to tell the difference between original and repro. is that the original spoiler has integral bolts in them, where the reproductions have bolt holes. Also, the mounting areas on the supports are hollow, where the reproductions are solid.
Also, they didn't change the spoiler design from 1970-72, so they are the same. The other spoiler available on the later models was the "duck" spoiler, which was another spoiler option all together. |

So here are some pictures of the two spoilers I have. Both have seams but are different. I also believe both are originals.

I think based on what i have seen there were 3 designs used on the 70, not sure if they were done by 71 and they ended up with all of the 3rd type. Who knows what dealers had in their inventory at what times. The first type as mentioned had a wider distance between mounts. My 70 judge has type 2 which has narrower mounting points and no seams on the underside (nov 24 baltimore car). The 3rd and final design had the seams on the underside and the narrower mounting points and supposedly was a more heavy duty design. Word has it that alot of the earlier spoilers were broken by people putting things on them, leaning on them sitting their kids on them etc. I sure there are others with info out there that can chime in, just what i have seen on cars and my experience. Mark

NOS one I sold a couple years ago. Seams, narower pedestals, and don't forget the center drain hole.
