Great another Mark VIII fan question
Well at least its not an installation question...
Anywho, does anyone know whether or not the all MARK VIII, TAURUS's and Thundberbird fans are the same? I went to my local yard and they seem pretty identical , at least the ones with V8's in them, the V6 cars have a noticeable smaller fan. Does anyone know??? THANKS ozzy.

Taurus fan of the same years had two fans on one shroud.
The Mark8 fan is one large fan. Some people with A/c use the Taurus fan so the extra fan can be turned on with the a/c. Another option is a Volvo fan, heard good results with this. Yet another option I have heard of is an LSx powered Fbody fan. |

Well i did notice that some of the V6 taurus's have a single fan, but again, not as big a fan as the MARK VIII. There were some V8 taurus's but the fans were already gone. I However did not see any 2 fan fans.
I was able to get myself a MARK VIII fan and i noticed that the Thunderbirds looked like they had the same size fan as the MARK VIII fan. I was tempted to take them all (there were about 4 fans that look like MARK VIII fans), but I will wait for a rainy day so I can get the 50% discount. I will have to research the volvos fans before i start taking them apart at the yard, Thanks for the tip ponjohn. Ozzy.

The true 93-94 lincoln fans will have a white plug and are only a single speed fan, but the thudnys and cougars will have the same fan blades as lincoln just a different motor, but its a two speed and better for a street setup IMO. also the later lincoln fans may have been two speed also, but i know the ones with the white plug are not as i have one of those! They were used with a controller to ramp them up and down as cooling was needed.

Volvo fan? What years/models and what are the specs compared to the Mark III and Taurus?

No concrete data on Volvo option. Similar package but thinner, certainly not as much volume. IIRC, it is 700 series volvo, maybe with a turbo.
What's nice about them is they have the rubber flappers to allow air through the shroud when on the highway. |

I did a little bit of looking around the 'net and here is what I have found on the Volvo fan.
1996-2004 models V70, S60, S70 and S80. Some will have a simple 2-wire power and ground, some will have a third wire for the A/C control. They reportedly put out 3500+ cfm and is similar in design to the Mark VIII, needing a 40-amp relay and fuse setup. Another page mentions a fan from the 80's-90's T-Bird SC (6 cyl supercharged), but this also takes a ton of juice. The author said he used a 70-amp circuit. I'm also reading about a temp sensor hose adapter from an 80's Saab 900 that you can plumb into the lower radiator hose for a temp sensor. Not sure if I'd want to use something like that, just thought I'd throw in that info.

thanks for the advice everyone, I will do some research at the junk yards and hopefully i will find some Gold!
On a side note, i got my MARK VIII installed, with my old relay system that had 25 amp fuses (went through 3 of them) And i have to say I LOVE THIS FAN. I let the engine creep to 210 hit the switch and it dropped 20 F in 1 min, at idle of course. However it didnt seem to go any lower than 170F. That might be the coolest i need it to be, but im sure it will get a little cooler with more coolant, the radiator is not completely full, about 3/4 full. I also need to adjust my hose, in one of the post i read that the radiator hose should never be higher than the most highest part of the radiator. Unfortunately for me it does, so im going to need to adjust the height of the RAD, or get a new hose that sags a little or get one of those adjustable necks. I will definitely have to upgrade the fuses and the relays, going with 40 amp relays and fuses. I hope this information helps anyone who has questions about the Mark VIII. Ozzy.
