Default "Bastard" Formula

I have a '81 Formula that I ordered new from the factory. I am in the process of getting it back on the road since it hasn't run in 10 years. When I ordered the car I selected a interior color that did not "match" the exterior color on the order sheet. The dealer called me after the order was placed to tell me the car had been removed from the assembly line because I did not select the recommended color combinations, and would I like to select a "recommended" combination. Since I did not want to do this I told them to cancel the order. The next day he called and said that they would build the car.
Anyway, I have a charcoal grey Formula with a dark blue interior. (recommeded colors were silver or black). The dealer says that this classifies the car as a "bastard" car.
Does this make the car any more or less valuable? It also happens to be the last year of the old body style.
Thanks.

Sounds like a factory freak. HPP has been doing some articals on them.

Hard to say on the value. Rare doesn't always mean desirable.

Ya, interesting combo.
To me that makes it more rare.

The Blue interior looks GREAT. There is such a Blue T/A with a Blue interior nearby.

As for the Charcoal Paint....Looks GREAT also, if it has that Silver Anniv look to it.

The combo might just-be-a-hot-look depending on the Strip&Chicken colors

I think the combo sounds real nice... as far a s rare = value,,, I guess that depends on the rest of the options, how original and how nice it is and how much anyone person thinks it's gotta be the car to own..... Otherwise it's a 81 Formie that's cool

I won't call that a bastard. Looks like a perfect match to me. You can talk it up as a one of one car but I don't think it will affect the value either way.

Looks great to me too. Did you have the FORMULA door stripes?

There was one on e-bay recently that had the striping in Burgundy/red on the silver car with blue vinyl interior - looked odd.

After reading the description I was glad to see the pictures. The dark blue goes very well with the charcoal. With it being a formula with a 301 your audience is limited but with the build sheet you could stand out from all the rest. That color combination looks great. Too bad it was not a factory recommended selection. What are your plans?

Car looks good, that makes it more desireable in my book. Probably offsets the 301 engine somewhat.

Mine has no door stripes. Just the "Formula" name on the front bumper and rear spoiler.
Has anyone replaced their 301 with a 350; wondering what is involved.

Yes, true. Often it means "no one wanted it then, either."
