Default Does this timing curve sound about right?

Keep in mind I'm in California where the best we get is 91 octane.

Finally had the chance to pull the distributor and go through it. From reading a thread here, and a chart of centerplates and weights (I can"t find the thread now), I set the curve as:

Static - 14*
Mechanical - 22*
Vacuum adv - 13-14*
Total advance - 50*

I get the mechanical advance from a #139 weights and #364 center plate, all installed #s down and Accel medium springs.

Vacuum advance is set with a Crane adjustable that starts at 12" vacuum and all in by 16.5".

The car previously had a center plate #396, which I couldn't find on the chart, so I swapped it with one from an old distributor. The car would tend to ping badly off idle unless I pulled 6-8* out with the MSD timing controller.

Combo:
462, 6X-4

Cam:
@ .006 285/290
@ .050 235/240
Lobe Lift .338/.331
Gross Lift @ 1.5:1 .507/.496
Lobe Separation 106 Deg
Installed Intake Centerline 102 Deg.

Unfortunately, my dial-back timing light died so I have no idea of the curve vs RPM and then I had to quit before driving it. See how it runs in the morning I guess.

I think that makes your total 36 not 50. The vaccum advaance goes away at WOT.

looks good to me except for your vacuum cannister. how much vacuum do you have at idle? i would guess not very much with a 106 lsa; a popular choice is the eschlin vc1810 from napa. it's all in at only 8 in/hg. i have to run that same crap gas (it was supposed to go up to 10% ethanol last march, too).

Total, as in at highway cruise is 50. Static + Mechanical = 36.
I am very aware of the lack of vacuum advance at WOT.

Vacuum at idle is about 15" at 900 rpm in gear.

Thanks for the tip on the canister. I'll have to go get one and try it. Not a real big fan of this adjustable one.

Might as well add an update.
Took the car to a cruise today and my oh my the difference! It ran cooler, didn't ping at all and throttle response was out of this world.

Big thanks also goes to Wheelspin (Les) for letting me borrow his O2 sensor kit so I could nail down this Q-Jet.

I'm just jealous because I have not finished fine tuning my motor. Glad to hear ya got it worked out. I need to borrow an A/F meter myself. I hope I get it done before winter hits !
