Default Accel Pedal Hang Up

Here's the issue fella's. I have a 69 GTO with a 400 that has a 750 Q-jet out of a 73 Buick sitting on the top of it. The carb has been rebuilt by the previous owner and the engine runs great. The problem I am having is when I jump on the skinny pedal quickly. I will feel a physical hang up in the pedal travel. When I hit that point the car hesitates for a split second until I get past it, then it roars to life in all of its tire melting glory. Now if I gradually transition to wot then I get no such hesitation or hang up, its only when I am quick with it.

Am I feeling a normal hang up in pedal travel as I hit the secondaries?

Am I feeling an accelerator pump issue?

Am I feeling a hang up in the throttle linkage?

Do I scrap messing with the old q-jet and just get a new Edelbrock?

Thanks for the help,

Tony

Test the linkage manually. If it is free it may be time for a new cable, which is still available for about $50 from gmpartsdirect.com. Number 9791207.

2X what webfoot said. Most likely a broken strand in the cable that is catching on something.

If you disconnect cable at carb and have a helper keep resistance on it while you depress pedal and you feel resistance at same spot it is probably the cable. I personally think it's normal to feel additional resistance in pedal as secondarys start to open on a Q jet. Sounds like the secondary air valve spring needs a slight adj to eliminate bog/hesitation.

"Do I scrap messing with the old q-jet and just get a new Edelbrock?"

You have a great carb now why on earth would you want to replace it with something inferior?

Thanks for the help, I'll give the cable a good once over and go from there.

Check the accelerator pump. Had this happen recently.

Did you buy it from Toyota...sorry couldn't resist.

Could be where the sleeve catches on the cable tube.
Or also could be the circular hold in the gasket is just not large enough and the butterfly is getting stuck.

Good luck.
