Convertible top Boot
I purchased a new PUI boot to match the interior and I have the same issue as I had with the last one. The tubular section of the boot that is supposed to fit in the aluminum track is too small to be held in place. Either that part of the boot should have a larger diameter or the track needs a smaller one.
Has anyone else experienced this?

my PUI boot seems a bit to wide there and has always been a struggle to slide it into the track. (which is why it usually stays there and I just flip it into the well when the top is up) Mine's 11 years old though, so materials could have changed since then.

Ditto on that, mine's tight too and leave it on. Maybe place a call and see what they say. Did you go with the black?

The sandalwood boot looks awesome with the new interior. I'll post pics next week. Monday she should finally be roadworthy again.
I took it out the other day but blew a high pressure hose and had some electrical issues.

Same as Dennis and Andretti...Mine is too tight so I opened up the track a bit all the way across with a screw driver, but still leave it in there and flip it back and forth when needed...

Can anyone post pictures showing the boot installed properly? Trying to sort it out on my 'project' specimen. Thanks

no problems with mine (68 convert with pearl white boot) from PUI
What do you need a picture of, specifically?

Put a coat of vaseline on both sides of the tube section and should slide in a lot easier. Just did mine last week. I leave mine in and flip also. I dont think it was made to take out on a daily basis

Top boot installed
Here's a couple pics from tonight with the sandalwood boot on.
I like the look. The car could be sitting just a little lower or needs 27" tires in the rear. Shown with 26" 285/40x17s

I think the tires are fine. I think if a inch were taken out of the suspension it would be perfect. But that is just from the pics.

Curt that's a really great looking color combo!
I toss mine back and forth too, just have to remember to pull it out of the well before dropping the top. My wife put the top down with it in the well once and some of the backing foam got torn. Otherwise OK though.

Amazing transformation, the car looks sweet. I really like the GP handles on it, a very nice touch of class. The second pic shows the cover's not even in the channel so you better keep an eye in the rearview mirror when you're cruising. lol

Well, fyrebird68, I've got a '69, and I'd like to see a close shot of the boot installed where it snaps and also where it tucks around the corners. I won't be anywhere near a Pontiac show for a while to get a peek myself. Thanks!

Thanks guys. I need to install 4 snaps as well. I assume the panel behind the armrest has 2 holes in each side for the old ones but they are now covered by the new vinyl. Some pics of this area could help me too.

I had the camera in the garage to take pictures of my dash project so took a few of my top boot snaps for you while I was at it. I bought my boot 10+ years ago. It snaps right in but the fit in the corners is not exactly precise. I don't know if this is typical or not.
Even with everything secured I found that the wind can un-snap the ends around 80 MPH, but I don't go that fast with the top down very often anyway. Walt

Is the snap on the side of the rear armrest panel a '70 only thing as on my '69 I only have the one on the front of armrest?
