Default Rear finishes?

I am restoring a 67 UV code rear. What color was the rear? Should the punkin be cast iron grey, the axle tubes and backing plates steel, axle retainer bolts black oxide, and the diff cover black? I heard the rear were bare and that they just sprayed the back with flat black so it didn't look rust from behind. True?

Should the leafs be grey or black?

What color was the traction bar and bracket?

Thanks

Update:

Under the rubber mono leaf cushions, the leaf was grey. The bottom part of the mount that holds the shock and parking cable, was black. Not sure if the rivits were steel or what the little bracket that holds the actual cable was colored/plated.

Can anyone comment on the housing, cover plate, and backing plates as far as finish?

The colors I'm going to list are what Jim Mattison used on his '67 RA bird along with what I found on my girlfriends very original '67 400 bird. The rear springs were a machine gray, I used smoke gray out of a rattle can which was close enough for me. The center section of rear end was bare metal, just clean and paint cast iron grey, the axle tubes are a bare steel finish, the rear cover was natural steel also, and the backing plates on gf cars were bare also. I assembled rear and then spayed semi gloss black on the top side of the entire rearend and let it run down the axle tubes just like it was when I took it out, have pics somewhere. There was a yellow splotch of paint on the top middle of center section also on ours, 3.08 open rear. The lower shock plates were 60% gloss black, brake cable bracket and rivits were natural. Try and find a copy of Pontiac Tech Special summer 2000 from HPP,has a lot of detail on the entire bird.

Somewhere in here is a thread on this same subject
I posted pics of my 68s rear which has never been touched and was ziebarted when new.
I have carefully removed some of the wax to show whats underneath.
I would paint entire rear with a color to duplicate the bare metal/or blast and clear coat with a satin clear
then splash on the black.
heres pics I posted

The photos of the axel tube in the link you posted are a dead ringer for the way our '67 looked, runs and all. I didn't find any yellow on the tubes of ours or on the fill plug like in some of the pics, just on the top of the pumpkin, got any idea what the yellow was for since it was in so many different areas?

I knew they were inspection marks, just thought different colors were used in different areas. Between yourself, the other pics in the link, and ours the yellow was in 3 different areas, maybe the same worker inspected alot of areas? Anyway I forgot to add to the OP first question the traction bar was natural, and the bracket was black, and as far as I can tell all the bolts were a black oxide finish.

My question was what was being inspected? I can see the yellow on the fill plug is for oil level correct, but what would the yellow on the axle tubes be for or on the top of my center section, there isn't anything there to check other than brake line connections. It's no big deal, just one of those curiosity questions.

Inspection marks arent always made on the area that was inspected.
Could have been rear filled, plug torqued, axles torqued and checked for leaks.
