Default F.A.S.T. record falls

This afternoon at Lebanon Valley Dragway the FAST record has fallen.... Dave Dudek's Road runner qualified #1 with a 10.28 @ 136.7 mph. Dave now own's both the FAST mph and ET record. With 3 passes this afternoon Dave went 10.31,10.29, 10.28.

Terry Pennington's previous record holding Corvette was not in attendance.

Lane Carey of Delaware is also on a tear running his Mustang 429 to a new best of 10.35 @ 133.50. The NY air was right at 3100'.With more racing tomorrow look for teens with these new combos still being sorted out.

On a Pontiac note, Rick Mahoneys '68 Firebird was not ready to compete at LV. Rick is nearing completion of a new engine combo and should be at Martin Mi in late June. Rumor has it that 9's are being kicked around for the Mahoney/Tiemann effort.

Should be a great summer!

That record will fall again.

Question is, will Rick need to use traction control to do it - like the Vette & Roadrunner do.

A rev limiter can also be used as a traction control device. A couple of years ago I raced on a local track that was as slick as wet grass. My engine went instantly on the rev limiter at 5800rpm's on the starting line. With the cylinders cancelling out the car took off pretty hard, and made a good run, even though the tires were slipping some all the way thru first gear.

I was expecting mid to high 12's on the run, down from low 11's. To my surprise, the 60' time was 1.88, and the ET was 11.64 at just over 120mph. Previous runs in similiar weather with good traction yielded 11.30's at 119-120mph with 1.61-1.64 60' times.

The FAST racers more than likely retard the timing on the starting line to help get them moving, then pour on the power for the rest of the run......Cliff

Was a great weekend of racing... even though I had to put my car on the trailer due to a blown trans seal during eliminations. At least I got to see Dave's 10.18 run from the starting line.

Here's a video of Saturday's qualifying runs- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L2knERK1GE8

Interesting how both top contenders use engines with cylinder heads having EXCELLENT port arrangement(s). The performance of the Ford "429" entry doesn't surprise me a bit. I would be among the best choices for FAST racing. The 429/460's are excellent engines, huge bores, short strokes and very well laid out cylinder heads.

It will be interesting to see Scott and Rick with their Pontiac entry using RAIV heads, which use a much more limited design having the intake ports siamesed and pushrods limiting the diameter of the runners?

Jay, any updates on your "EGR" intake/"log manifold" engine getting finished up?.......Cliff
