Default Questions about '59 GMC 176 tooth fw

I'm thinking about using a '59 GMC bellhousing and flywheel if I build a '59 389 motor. My questions are:
What aftermarket starter if any will work?
I am correct in understanding that the 176 tooth fw will accept a 12" clutch just need to be redrilled, right?
Where is the clutch fork in relation to say the later '65 on aluminum bellhousings?

Thanks, Nate

I think that Tom S found a geared mini-starter that's a bolt-in for bellhousing mount- send him a PM and ask. (IMI are not bolt-in, in spite of what their ads used to say).
Unless you need room around the starter (headers, etc.), why not just use a stock starter? You could get one rebuilt with high-current field coils if you need more cranking power.

I have a 59 GMC flywheel and bellhousing in my star chief. I have a 12" clutch in it and mine needed to be redrilled. My pressure plate has 6 evenly spaced holes instead of 3 pairs of 2.

When I was looking into mini starters Brad from Fabcraft told me starters are interchangable up to 63? I don't remember exactly but I do have a picture of a 62 or 63 with a mini starter which he said would work on my 59.

So the mini starter that Nunzi or R.A.R.E. sells should work? Even with the 176 tooth flywheel?

I don't know but I do remember that someone told me that since they are bellhousing mounted that I need to find one with the little nose cone deal on the end.

Maybe if you do a search you can find my posts about it maybe 2 years ago

Not necessary- starter just needs a diameter that will register in the bellhousing hole. The IMI that I adapted to a '58 doesn't have any "nose cone".
